Dev Engineer Review

The PrimTS vendor snapshot and compatibility patch were refreshed. The context planner now receives separate K- and V-cache dtypes, and the block-sparse proxy contract uses K/V block means over present tokens. These changes align the wrapper API, vendor code, and sparse reference behavior.

The refresh retains the release branch’s bound plan-cache behavior and omits unrelated vendor and SOL backend changes. No dependency version changes or new FMHA enablement are reported. Release-branch GPU execution and normal CI remain pending, so Blackwell numerical, end-to-end, and performance behavior is not yet verified.

QA Engineer Review

Three test files changed. They cover context-wrapper planner arguments, decode and MLA CUDA-graph references, and block-sparse proxy routing. No changed test was found in the test-db/ CI lists or qa/ manual-QA lists. The author reports passing 72 hermetic vendor-source tests and offline checks; release-branch GPU and normal CI results are pending.

Coverage verdict: needs follow-up. Run the listed release validation on supported hardware, including test_prims_ts_fmha.py, test_prims_ts_attention_backend.py, and sparse/test_prims_ts_block_sparse.py.

Per-File QA Perspective

  • 3rdparty/vendor_patches/flashinfer-prims-ts.patch — Vendor changes switch selected APIs and imports and remove trace-dispatch templates from wrappers. Verify supported dispatch paths and imports on the release branch.
  • 3rdparty/vendor_sources.lock.yaml — The PrimTS source pin and patch/source digests changed. Verify vendor integrity against the refreshed snapshot.
  • tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/fmha/prims_ts.py — The context plan call now passes separate K- and V-cache dtypes. Verify planning with matching and different cache dtypes.
  • tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/sparse/params.py — The block-sparse input contract defines K/V summaries as means over present tokens, including a partial final block. Verify callers provide summaries in this format.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/test_prims_ts_block_sparse.py — Updates proxy-route reference scaling and replay V summaries to block means. This test was not found in the integration CI or manual-QA lists.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_prims_ts_attention_backend.py — Updates decode and MLA CUDA-graph reference APIs and workspace sizing, and checks separate context dtypes. This test was not found in the integration CI or manual-QA lists.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_prims_ts_fmha.py — Uses an autospecced context-wrapper mock and checks separate K/V dtype arguments. This test was not found in the integration CI or manual-QA lists.

Description

Backport #20155 to release/1.3.

  • Original squash commit: fca08032f752cecde2fdb99d1538940b4d23fc7a.
  • Release base: 248825ed123474bd95302f716b95a2ea1db1cca1.
  • Backport commit: 0b3d0cfe01c1f6a3e9f8ca62cfae106165e425c1, using git cherry-pick -x -s.

The backport imports the same audited PrimTS source snapshot and persistent compatibility patch as the merged main PR:

Item Before After
Canonical branch in yuxianq/flashinfer trtllm-prims-ts-dev trtllm-prims-ts-dev-20261012
Source commit 6e0d64e79f2a87eeb539e2f40ea12d009679a8f5 ae312f7cc1723b06fda5168105ade0f328ee47d8

It also carries the separate context K/V dtype planner arguments, updated dense attention wrapper/graph tests, and the generic block-sparse proxy summary contract/reference updates. The source audit and compatibility rationale are documented in #20155. FlashInfer 0.6.18 and CUTLASS DSL 4.8.0.dev0 requirements remain unchanged. No new FMHA enablement, dependency updates, or vendor-bot changes are included.

Release-specific conflict resolutions

Four files conflicted:

  • 3rdparty/vendor_sources.lock.yaml: kept the refreshed PrimTS pin and digests while preserving the release branch's vendor membership. Did not introduce main's unrelated openengine-proto entry; sana-sol-attn is unchanged.
  • tensorrt_llm/_torch/visual_gen/attention_backend/sparse/sol/kernels.py.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/visual_gen/sparse_attention/sol/test_sol_parity.py.
  • tests/unittest/_torch/visual_gen/sparse_attention/sol/test_sol_predictor.py.

The last three are absent from release/1.3, which does not contain that SOL predictor/backend integration. Kept them absent rather than introduce isolated implementation/tests without the feature. Generic PrimTS block-sparse K/V-mean contract and test updates are retained, including the release branch's existing explicitly bound plan-cache behavior.

Post-cherry-pick range-diff confirms the only patch differences are those three intentional omissions, lock-file surrounding context, and cherry-pick/sign-off metadata. All 51 applicable changed files are preserved, with no extra files introduced by conflict resolution. The complete PrimTS vendor tree, compatibility patch, dense FMHA adapter, and dense attention test files match #20155 byte-for-byte.

The upstream canonical branches and existing publishing bot are untouched. This is a code-changing release backport, not a lock-only promotion; it needs normal CI.

Test Coverage

Passed on this backport:

  • All 72 hermetic tests/unittest/others/test_vendor_sources.py tests.
  • Offline integrity verification of both release vendor entries.
  • Source-backed PrimTS verification against the immutable source commit in a local source repository; destination exactly matches the source plus compatibility patch.
  • Assertions that the complete PrimTS lock entry matches [None][chore] Refresh PrimTS vendor source onto FlashInfer main #20155, vendor membership matches the release baseline, and the unrelated vendor entry is unchanged.
  • Python syntax compilation of the vendored PrimTS package, affected adapters, and attention tests.
  • Applicable pre-commit hooks and git diff --check.
  • Post-cherry-pick file-set and range-diff audits.

Pending: release-branch GPU execution and normal CI. The local GPU is A40, while these PrimTS kernels require SM100/SM103; the host Python dependencies are also older than the release requirements. No new Blackwell numerical, end-to-end model, or performance result is claimed for this backport. The original main PR's B200 results are historical evidence, not a substitute for release validation.

Relevant release validation includes test_prims_ts_fmha.py, test_prims_ts_attention_backend.py (Qwen/DeepSeek, eager and CUDA graph), and sparse/test_prims_ts_block_sparse.py.

Walkthrough

The pull request updates the vendored FlashInfer PrimTS source and its API usage. It also passes separate K- and V-cache dtypes, clarifies block-sparse summary semantics, and updates decode and attention tests.

Changes

PrimTS attention integration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Vendor source and API alignment
3rdparty/vendor_patches/flashinfer-prims-ts.patch, 3rdparty/vendor_sources.lock.yaml
The vendor patch updates API decorators and import paths across block-sparse, context, decode, MLA decode, and sparse metadata modules. The source lock records an updated branch, commit, and digests.
Separate context cache dtypes
tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/fmha/prims_ts.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_prims_ts_attention_backend.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_prims_ts_fmha.py
Context wrapper planning and tests pass separate key and value cache dtypes. The wrapper test uses an autospecced mock.
Block-sparse proxy summaries
tensorrt_llm/_torch/attention/backends/sparse/params.py, tests/unittest/_torch/attention/sparse/test_prims_ts_block_sparse.py
The documentation describes K/V summaries as block means over present tokens, including a partial final block. The proxy reference and replay test use block means.
Decode graph replay references
tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_prims_ts_attention_backend.py
Decode and MLA graph tests use public paged-cache reference APIs and workspaces sized to the computed requirement. They remove workspace/query overlap rejection checks. Shared-workspace decode references also use the public API.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 0b3d0

The partial-block proxy test gap is bounded but worth fixing to protect attention correctness. No other concrete merge-blocking issue is established.
