Description

Add opt-in Orbbec EGO support for stereo camera capture and dataset recording
through Isaac Capture's existing DeviceIO, tracker, and MCAP interfaces.

This PR includes:

  • An Orbbec EGO camera plugin supporting stereo video, IMU, and optional audio.
  • Schemas and bindings for frame metadata, sensor samples, calibration,
    device health, and diagnostics.
  • Live trackers, local MCAP recording, optional embedded media, and
    structured-record replay.
  • SDK-free MCAP merge and media export tools.
  • Python APIs for offline sample-time association, time-model calibration,
    and synchronization audits.
  • EGO stereo preview integration in camera_viz, with regression tests,
    configuration examples, and usage documentation.

The camera plugin is disabled by default
(BUILD_PLUGIN_EGO_CAMERA=OFF) and requires an external OrbbecSDK v2 package
when enabled. BUILD_EGO_MEDIA_TOOLS enables the SDK-free tools independently.

Type of change

  • Bug fix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
  • New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
  • Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to change)
  • Documentation update

Testing

Local validation used Linux x86_64, Python 3.11, and Release builds.
The native EGO and VIZ configurations enabled testing, examples, the EGO plugin,
and SDK-free media tools. Full builds and CTest regression passed, along with
GPU shader validation.

Packaging validation with BUILD_VIZ=OFF passed: source distribution,
editable installation with the upstream CI import smoke checks, and the
official wheel checks for both pip/scikit-build and CMake-staged classic
setuptools builds. Each wheel path included the main and compatibility packages.

The full pre-commit hook set, clang-format-14 checks on changed C++ sources,
and strict Sphinx documentation build passed.

Supplementary Pinocchio, Wuji, CUDA, and SOMA regressions passed without
skipped tests. XR session tests also passed against a real CloudXR 6.3 service.

Representative commands, using locally configured build and wheel directories:

cmake --build build/viz --parallel 2
ctest --test-dir build/viz --output-on-failure --parallel 2
env -u PYTHONPATH -u PYTHONHOME ISAAC_TELEOP_WHEELS_DIR="$PWD/dist" uv run --python 3.11 \
  --directory tests/python/packaging --extra dev pytest -v test_wheel_contents.py
make -C docs current-docs
SKIP=check-copyright-year pre-commit run --all-files

NVIDIA CI must validate the updated PR against main.

Checklist

  • I have read and understood the contribution guidelines
  • I have run the linter and formatter with SKIP=check-copyright-year pre-commit run --all-files
  • I have made corresponding changes to the documentation
  • I have added tests that prove my fix/feature works (or explained why not)
  • I have signed off all my commits (git commit -s) per the DCO

📝 Walkthrough

This pull request adds an EGO camera plugin with stereo video capture, optional IMU and audio, structured metadata, and MCAP recording, replay, export, and merge tools. It adds tracker and schema APIs, plus Python tools for recording configuration, clock calibration, and synchronization audits. The camera visualization example gains EGO preview, H.264/HEVC decoding, and side-by-side stereo display. Plugin startup also gains a configurable shutdown timeout.

The new EGO plugin can corrupt memory when the camera returns malformed calibration data. Add bounds checks before merging. Two smaller README fixes are also needed: correct the broken anchors, and change the stated validation duration to 15 minutes.

✅ Preview deployed: https://NVIDIA.github.io/IsaacCapture/preview/pr-1252/

Port the EGO plugin, live/replay trackers, structured schemas, MCAP media
and timing tools, Python helpers, and stereo preview from
e87ad56 onto
NVIDIA/IsaacCapture@ef804ef.

Preserve main controller monitoring, gamepad/spacemouse support, packaging
licenses and APIs, and category-based docs. Keep EGO schemas and golden
files byte-identical to the source branch. Enable the EGO CI workflow on
the Orbbec stereo and EGOPRO development branches.

Validation: 218 C++ tests, 447 schema/session Python tests, 140 EGO/MCAP
Python tests, 45 camera preview unit tests, all-files pre-commit, strict
Sphinx build, and classic wheel/stub generation. The preview tests use a
viz import stub in the BUILD_VIZ=OFF configuration; native preview/codec
extensions were separately built and imported.

Physical EGO FW 1.1.11 with SDK 20261012: stereo H264 1600x1300@30, 302
frames per eye, 4400 accel and gyro samples each, clean decode, embedded
MCAP export matching sidecars, and native replay. Calibration reads were
unavailable and remain an explicit hardware/SDK limitation. EGOPRO
four-stream changes are outside this migration.

Fix the broken anchors to the EGO plugin README.

src/plugins/ego/README.md has no heading named "Replay structured EGO data". The replay section heading is "Structured Replay and Offline Reading". Its anchor is #structured-replay-and-offline-reading. Line 85 links to #sample-time-alignment-and-offline-reading, and that heading does not exist either. Both links therefore land at the top of the page.

`record_*` takes an optional duration in seconds and an optional output path.
These recorders need a live OpenXR runtime; replay needs only the file.

At Line 85, use #structured-replay-and-offline-reading, the section that contains the time-model details.

As per path instructions: "docs/**: Only flag factual errors, broken links, or spelling mistakes" (applied here to user-facing documentation).

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Correct the validation duration: the code requires 15 minutes, not 30.

VALIDATION_DURATION_NS in src/python/isaaccapture/ego/calibration.py is 15 * 60 * 1_000_000_000. fit_time_alignment marks a fit as validated at 15 minutes. sync._validate_model also accepts held_out_duration_ns >= 900_000_000_000. The plugin README states "at least 15 minutes". This README can make users collect twice the required validation data, and it contradicts the other README.

Bound-check each SDK chunk before you copy it into result.

The callback resizes result only to chunk->fullDataSize. It then copies chunk->size bytes to result.begin() + chunk->offset without a bounds check. The device supplies offset, size, and fullDataSize. If offset + size > fullDataSize, std::copy writes past the end of the vector and corrupts the heap. This can happen with a firmware bug, a USB transfer error, or a chunk sequence where a later chunk reports a smaller fullDataSize.

The fix: reject the transfer when offset > result.size() or when size > result.size() - offset. Also report failure if the transfer never reaches the done state, so that a partial blob is not parsed as calibration.

Review comment at @src/plugins/ego/core/calibration.cpp around lines 160 - 165:
In the calibration transfer callback, validate each chunk’s offset and size
against result after resizing, using subtraction-based bounds checks to avoid
overflow; reject the transfer if the chunk does not fit. Also ensure the
transfer reports failure unless it reaches the done state, so partial data is
not parsed as calibration.
