- Around line 263-264: Update FakeAdb’s result helper to honor the check option
passed to subprocess.run: when check is enabled, raise on a nonzero return code
as CompletedProcess.check_returncode does; otherwise, return the completed
process unchanged.
- Around line 287-288: Update FakeAdb.__call__ to accept --remove only for valid
adb forward or adb reverse teardown commands with a tcp:<port> argument;
continue returning success for those shapes and let malformed or unrecognized
commands reach the existing assertion.

…ndings - RealBrowserAdb's am start/forward branches built CompletedProcess directly, bypassing the check=True handling #1147 just added to FakeAdb - a caller passing check=True (as _adb_forward_cdp() does) got no CalledProcessError on a simulated forward/am-start failure. Route both branches through the same check-honoring result() helper FakeAdb uses. - real_wss_proxy() restored TELEOP_OOB_HUB_ONLY on exit but not CXR_INSTALL_DIR, leaking it into later tests in the same process. - Removed a duplicated comment line and two stale docstrings/messages that described #1146 as not yet merged (it has, onto this branch). - Dropped static_webxr_build()'s npm_build_script/build_dir_name parameters: every call site always passed the same pair, and the other pair was explicitly "not for tests." - Extracted the three tests' identical 8-line port/dir/env setup into a shared real_browser_env() helper in conftest.py. - Trimmed oob-real-browser-integration-test-plan.md from a 404-line exploration journal (superseded sections kept alongside the final state) down to the parts that are still useful as reference: what's real vs faked, the two build bugs found, the command inventory, and the test list. … tests Every helper in oob_teleop_adb.py that shells out to adb ultimately calls subprocess.run - either directly, or through its own _run_adb wrapper - so a single test double patched at that one boundary can stand in for a real device across the whole launch/repair call chain (device-state checks, /proc/net/unix scanning for the DevTools socket, am start, adb forward/ --remove, getprop), rather than mocking each Python-level helper individually. That also means tests using it exercise each helper's real parsing/command-building logic (the /proc/net/unix regex scan, open_url_on_headset's shell command, the get-state checks) instead of assuming those work in combination, which is all today's per-function mocks prove on their own. Added to conftest.py (not a single test file) since it's meant to be shared across any oob_teleop_adb test that needs a device, present or future - same place FakeEnvConfig/mock_service_deps already live for the CloudXRService tests. An unrecognized adb command raises rather than silently succeeding, so a test surfaces any invocation this fake doesn't yet know how to answer instead of passing for the wrong reason. Not yet used by any test - this is just the reusable double itself. Direct coverage of the shared fake-adb test double added in the previous commit - every branch of FakeAdb.__call__ (get-state device/non-device, reconnect, the /proc/net/unix devtools-socket scan matched and empty, getprop, forward, forward --remove, am start, the unrecognized-command raise), call recording, and mock_adb()'s patch/restore of subprocess.run including kwarg forwarding. If this fake answers a command wrong, every future oob_teleop_adb test built on it is unreliable regardless of how correct that test's own assertions look - this is what actually backs the claim that it does. …ching - result() now raises CalledProcessError when check=True and the configured rc is nonzero, matching real subprocess.run's contract - previously a test exercising a check=True call path via mock_adb could miss a simulated failure entirely. - The --remove branch matched any args containing "--remove" anywhere, silently accepting malformed commands. Restrict it to the two valid ADB teardown shapes (`adb forward --remove tcp:<port>` / `adb reverse --remove tcp:<port>`), consistent with the "unrecognized command raises" contract this test double documents for itself. Summary
Reviewed 3f3a960ca972ec05bd80f295becfefa2aec261b3 using the global review guidelines, repository AGENTS.md, and tests/AGENTS.md, with separate readability, conciseness, correctness, and repository-guidance reviews. The objective is a reusable subprocess-boundary fake that exercises real ADB parsing and command construction. The implementation is small and readable, but it needs updating for the current launch helpers and stricter command recognition to fulfill that objective. These are fixture reliability concerns; existing production behavior is unaffected because the fake has no consumer tests yet.
Legend: 🚫 Blocker · 💡 Suggestion · 🔍 Nit
| Finding | |
|---|---|
| 💡 | tests/python/core/cloudxr/conftest.py:278 — The advertised launch chain cannot run with this fake. Calling the real open_url_on_headset() inside mock_adb() raises AssertionError for ['adb', 'shell', 'dumpsys', 'power'], which its required wake-state preflight issues. With SELECTED_ADB_SERIAL set, it fails even earlier on ['adb', '-s', 'HEADSET', 'get-state']. Add the current preflight response and normalize optional serial selection before dispatch. A focused real-helper smoke test would prevent this fixture from drifting behind its consumers. |
| 💡 | tests/python/core/cloudxr/conftest.py:302 — Malformed commands silently succeed. Verified that ['adb', 'forward'], ['adb', 'forward', '--remove'], and ['adb', 'shell', 'echo am start'] all return zero. The broad forward prefix and am start substring checks can hide the command-building regressions this fake is meant to detect. Validate establishment/removal shapes separately and recognize an actual intent-launch command. This is a remaining gap beyond CodeRabbit's already-addressed --remove finding. |
| 🔍 | tests/python/core/cloudxr/conftest.py:233 — Shorten the FakeAdb docstring to purpose, mock_adb() usage, and unsupported-command behavior. The helper inventory and repeated justification exceed the repository's guidance to keep docstrings brief and state each fact once. |
| 🔍 | tests/python/core/cloudxr/test_fake_adb.py:123 — Rename test_mock_adb_forwards_kwargs to describe acceptance of subprocess options, and correct its docstring: check is honored rather than ignored. Add success/failure assertions for check=True to preserve the behavior fixed after CodeRabbit's earlier review. |
Validation: all 15 new tests passed; Ruff 0.15.1 lint and formatting checks passed for both changed files. Reproduced the launch failures and malformed-command successes against the actual imported production helpers/fake. Local validation used Python 3.14, outside the leaf's declared 3.11–3.13 range. The combined new/ADB test run timed out after 60 seconds and is incomplete. CI pre-commit passed; local full pre-commit timed out at REUSE after earlier hooks passed, so that run is incomplete. The ARM64 build failed during CUDA setup (exit 4), and the downstream CloudXR CI test job was skipped. Existing CodeRabbit check=True and broad --remove fixes were verified at this head. SPDX headers, test placement, and automatic CMake discovery comply with repository guidance. Integration coverage is explicitly deferred in the PR; the suggestions above concern the reusable double's present contract.

… launch preflight Review findings on the reusable fake: - The real open_url_on_headset() could not run against it: its wakefulness preflight (dumpsys power) and a pinned `-s <serial>` both hit an unscripted-call assertion. Answer dumpsys power (configurable wakefulness), and match commands with a pinned serial ignored while .calls keeps them as issued. - Malformed commands such as `adb forward`, `adb forward --remove` and `adb shell 'echo am start'` silently succeeded. Match forward set-up/removal and intent launches by exact shape. Tests: real open_url_on_headset() smoke tests with and without a pinned serial, negative cases for malformed commands, check=True success/failure assertions, and a clearer name for the subprocess-options test. The FakeAdb docstring is shortened. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Gareth Morgan <gmorgan@nvidia.com>
