CLI host selection crates/switchyard-server/src/cli.rs |
The default host changes to 127.0.0.1. A later repeated --host value takes precedence. Tests cover the default and later values for IPv4, IPv6, and wildcard addresses. |
Deployment host settings Dockerfile, dev-server/switchyard.service, benchmark/routing-profiles/*, crates/switchyard-server/README.md, docs/cli_reference.md, docs/operations/local_evaluation.md, CHANGELOG.md |
The Docker entrypoint, systemd service, and benchmark commands specify 0.0.0.0. Documentation and the changelog describe the loopback default, remote-access configuration, and host overrides. |

Explanation
Issue
#596requires a loopback default and coordinated deployment, documentation, migration, and regression-test updates. The supplied PR evidence reports127.0.0.1as the CLI default, later--hostoverride tests, explicit--host 0.0.0.0forDockerfileanddev-server/switchyard.service, loopback for the installer-created user service, updated CLI and operational documentation, and anCHANGELOG.mdmigration note. The reported changes satisfy the coding requirements.

-
Explanation
The supplied change summary limits the changes to the bind-address default, explicit deployment bindings, focused CLI tests, migration and operational documentation, and related benchmark launch profiles. These changes support issue
#596. No unrelated change is identified.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 3 functions across 1 files. (3 skipped: 3 unsupported.)

- Autofix · Keep fixing CodeRabbit findings and required CI, and resolving merge conflicts
A rabbit checks the host bind line,
Loopback keeps the default fine.
For remote paths, set 0.0.0.0,
Later host flags take the cue.
The Docker and service settings shine.

Thanks for covering the whole set of deployment paths, not just the binary. I built the branch and checked the real binary. With no flag it binds 127.0.0.1. With --host 0.0.0.0 it binds all interfaces. A later --host after the image's default wins. /health answered in each case. Both new tests fail without the matching code change. The Docker image, systemd unit, Pier commands, run-baseline.sh, and the DeepSWE profiles all pass --host 0.0.0.0. The other docs examples use same-host clients, so they keep working.
Approving with one small request: please add a one-line comment on overrides_with = "host" in cli.rs saying it lets a later --host override the Docker ENTRYPOINT default. The test name explains it, but the attribute alone looks odd.

What
Starting
switchyard-serverwithout--hostcurrently listens on every network interface. This change defaults it to127.0.0.1. The Docker image,dev-server/switchyard.serviceand Pier launch commands explicitly use--host 0.0.0.0so those deployments remain reachable. The user service created byscripts/linux/install.shstays on127.0.0.1. A later--hostoverrides the Docker entrypoint default. Why
Reduce accidental network exposure while keeping the supplied remote deployments reachable. Existing remote deployments must add
--host 0.0.0.0. Fixes #596.Notes for reviewers
The CLI tests cover the default address and a later host override. The startup guidance names the development systemd unit and explains that the installer creates a local-only user service.
For this documentation update, the strict documentation build and
git diff --checkpassed. The rendered guide shows both service addresses.Runtime code and deployment configuration are unchanged from
1369c6140f4, where validation passed:cargo fmt --all --check,cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --locked -- -D warnings, cargo test -p switchyard-server --locked(103 tests), three DeepSWE configuration dry runs, and three native socket checks. The socket checks verified default loopback, explicit wildcard binding and a later host override, with/healthreturning 200 in each case. No live provider calls were made.Full workspace and Python test suites, Docker and systemd execution were not repeated. Hosted validation remains pending.
Summary by CodeRabbit
--host 0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0; a later--hostoption overrides the Docker default.
