feat(desktop): install and restore reviewed harness settings - #1105
This PR adds install (i, type INSTALL) and restore (u, type RESTORE) on the Harnesses page.
Install backs up the original settings and writes only what the preview showed. Malformed settings, symlinks, and files that changed after the preview stop the change before any write. Pi replaces two files separately with a best-effort rollback, so an interrupted change can require Restore.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Manage routes in the desktop app: create, edit, duplicate, rename, switch algorithms, and remove them.
Preview route and configuration changes before applying them; saved route changes are validated and backed up.
View supported AI tools, accounts, clients, models, and route compatibility.
Preview and apply tool configuration installs or restores, with account-specific settings support.
Load and refresh model lists, with guidance when a key is needed.
Bug Fixes
Cache-creation token usage now appears in the correct usage field.
The desktop app adds route editing, harness configuration management, model-list retrieval, and controller snapshots and actions. The translation encoder now reports cache-creation input tokens under cache_write_tokens.

Summary
Usage encoding and assertion crates/switchyard-translation/src/codecs/openai_chat/buffered.rs, crates/switchyard-translation/tests/response_translation.rs
Changes the emitted and tested cache-creation usage field to prompt_tokens_details.cache_write_tokens.
Pi installs can silently remove custom keys from an existing switchyard provider entry. The rollback after a failed multi-file replace is incomplete and can hide the original error. An empty or relative harness directory variable can send reads and writes to the wrong location. Each is narrow and recoverable, so these are worth addressing but are not serious blockers.

319-319: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Low value
Trim the typed key before using it for the request.
key() sends the typed key unchanged. The save paths trim it first: save_key on macOS and Windows both call trim(). A key pasted with a trailing space or tab can therefore be sent as typed, and the endpoint may reject it. Once the key is saved, the trimmed form is sent. The request that is verified can differ from the credential that is stored.
Trim the key once in key() so verification and storage use the same value. The controller already rejects whitespace-only keys, so the filter is a safeguard.

Review comment at @crates/switchyard-desktop/src/models.rs at line 319:
Update the typed-key handling in key() to trim the key before using it for the
request, so verification matches the value saved by save_key. Preserve the
existing environment-key fallback and rely on the controller’s whitespace-only
validation rather than adding a separate empty-key filter.
Compute harness dependents once per snapshot, not once per route.
known_dependents(&route.id) runs inside the route loop. Each call runs accounts::list(tool) and harness::inspect for every harness and every saved account. Every snapshot therefore reads and parses all harness settings files once per route. The worker runs snapshot() after every dispatch and on each refresh interval, and it blocks the TUI response until the reads finish. With many routes or accounts, this I/O grows linearly for no benefit, because the inspected model IDs do not depend on the route.
Inspect each destination once. Then match each route ID against the collected results.
// Build once before the route loop.fninspected_dependents() -> Vec<(Option<String>,Dependent)>{letmut found = Vec::new();for&(tool, label)in harness::HARNESSES{letmut destinations = vec![(None, harness::paths(tool))];
destinations.extend(
accounts::list(tool).into_iter().map(|(name, path)| (Some(name), accounts::config_paths(tool,Some(&path)))),);for(account, files)in destinations {letOk(files) = files else{continue};let model = harness::inspect(tool,&files).ok().and_then(|status| {
status.lines().next()?.strip_prefix("Model: ").map(str::to_string)});
found.push((model,Dependent{ tool, label, account, files }));}}

Update the snapshot-building flow to inspect harness destinations once per
snapshot rather than calling known_dependents for every route. Reuse the
collected dependent results in the route loop, matching each route ID against
the inspected model IDs while preserving the existing dependent values.

Rebased onto main (a64bacc) now that #1103 and #1104 are merged. The PR is down to two commits: the install and restore feature (176c437) and the review fixes (85d9872).
About the buffered.rs change: this PR doesn't change buffered.rs. The old branch was cut from an older main and still carried a copy of my cache_creation_tokens → cache_write_tokens commit, which had already merged on its own as #947. Because GitHub compares a PR against the point where its branch split off main, it listed that commit as part of this PR. Compared with the latest main, the old branch also lacked the chat_template_kwargs line that #1163 added, so the change could look like a revert. Neither change belongs to this PR. After the rebase, it only touches controller.rs, harness.rs and tui.rs in switchyard-desktop.
CodeRabbit nitpicks:
Harness dependents: fixed in 85d9872. Each refresh now reads every harness and account settings file once and matches the routes against that list, instead of rereading every file for every route.
