Moonfin for Roku builds on the foundation of the official Jellyfin Roku client with targeted UI and UX improvements for the living room. Seerr setup has its own page, see Seerr Setup.
- New installs start with a setup wizard, asking where you want the navigation bar, which media bar style you like, whether you prefer classic or modern home rows, and which detail screen style suits you, in that order.
- Each question shows a preview drawn from your own library artwork rather than describing the option in words.
- It only asks what you have not already answered, so an answer that came down from your server profile or that you chose on this device is skipped, and a second Roku on the same account usually sees nothing.
- A short tour follows the questions, and only appears alongside a real question rather than standing between you and the app.
- Unified library support so content from multiple Jellyfin and Emby servers plays seamlessly in one app.
- Switch between servers without losing your place.
- Improved server selection logic when the same title exists on more than one server.
- Sign in with Emby Connect, pick a server Moonfin found on your network, or enter its URL and use a local server account.
- Emby Connect credentials are never saved, only the sign-in for the server you picked.
- Reverse-proxy base paths like
/embywork. - Browsing, artwork, favorites, search, details, and playback need no server plugin, including version selection, resume, and chapter starts.
- The Emby edition of the Moonfin server plugin adds settings sync, ratings, themes, messages, diagnostic uploads, and Seerr.
- Seek previews and intro and credits skipping use the thumbnails and chapter markers Emby provides. Lyrics are Jellyfin only, since Emby has no lyrics API.
Moonfin is the first Roku client with native Seerr support. Setup goes through the Moonfin server plugin, see Seerr Setup.
- Seerr lives inside the normal detail screen, with its rows and tabs alongside everything else, rather than in a separate screen of its own.
- Browse trending, popular, and recommended movies and shows, filtered by genre, studio, network, or keyword.
- Request content in HD or 4K directly from your Roku, with smart season selection for shows, all through one dialog rather than a chain of screens.
- A requests and issues screen with status chips, showing what you have asked for and where each request stands.
- Seerr home rows for trending, popular, upcoming, and your recent requests.
- Optional NSFW content filtering using Seerr and TMDB metadata.
- Authenticate with your Jellyfin or Emby login, which saves a permanent local API key.
- Global search includes Seerr results, with rich backdrop images for a cinematic discovery experience.
Requires the Moonfin server plugin, which is also what makes Seerr connectivity possible.
-
Bidirectional settings sync between the app and the server plugin (
PushToServerandPullFromServer). - Settings persist across devices, so a new Roku picks up the preferences you already set.

- Hidden Continue Watching and Next Up items sync from the server and stay hidden on Roku.
- A server-pushed home row order from the plugin is respected on the home screen.
- Built-in Moonfin, Neon Pulse, and 8-Bit Hero themes with bundled fonts.
- A community Theme Store, fetched from the Moonfin-Client/Themes GitHub repo.
- Server-shared themes through the Moonbase plugin, so a whole server can use the same look.
- Your theme choice syncs across devices.

- Seerr rows for trending, popular, upcoming, and recent requests.

- Rows for one specific collection, genre, or playlist, rather than only a generic row covering all of them.
- A home row picker for choosing which rows appear, with no cap on how many you can have.
- Every row is orderable in Home Sections, and the whole layout syncs with the plugin rather than just a flat list of row names.

- Jellyfin 12 compatibility.
