Jellyfin source AccessSchedules DayOfWeek StartHour EndHour server local time UserPolicy
💡 Result:
I found the **schedule data model**, but not enough source evidence to confirm which timezone Jellyfin uses when enforcing it.
- `AccessSchedule` defines `DayOfWeek`, `StartHour`, and `EndHour`; the hours are `double` values. The entity itself does **not** specify a timezone. ([fossies.org](https://fossies.org/dox/jellyfin-12.1/AccessSchedule_8cs_source.html?utm_source=openai))
- `UserPolicy` carries an `AccessSchedules` collection. Jellyfin’s user-management docs say schedules limit when a user may log in or play media. ([github.com](https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-sdk-swift/blob/main/Sources/Entities/UserPolicy.swift?utm_source=openai))
- **Unresolved:** these sources don’t establish whether enforcement interprets the schedule in server-local time, UTC, or another timezone. The closest source for the enforcement logic would be Jellyfin Server’s implementation that checks `AccessSchedules`; the model and docs alone can’t settle it.

site:github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin AccessSchedules IsParentalScheduleAllowed DateTime local time source
💡 Result:
In Jellyfin’s current `master`, `IsParentalScheduleAllowed()` passes `DateTime.UtcNow` into the schedule check, which then calls `date.ToLocalTime()` before comparing the local day and hour with the schedule. So the check uses the **Jellyfin server’s local time zone**, not the client’s. ([raw.githubusercontent.com](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/master/Jellyfin.Data/UserEntityExtensions.cs))
That source is for `master`; you didn’t specify a release or commit, so behavior in a particular version remains unverified.

Jellyfin v10.10 UserEntityExtensions.cs IsParentalScheduleAllowed DateTime.UtcNow ToLocalTime
💡 Result:
Are you asking what the `DateTime.UtcNow.ToLocalTime()` call does in Jellyfin 10.10’s `IsParentalScheduleAllowed`?
It converts the current UTC time to the **server machine’s local time** before checking it against the user’s access schedule. So the schedule is evaluated in the server’s time zone—not necessarily the user’s. That’s the likely implication of the conversion; I couldn’t verify the exact v10.10 source line from the available search results. The available code reference is for a later Jellyfin version, so it doesn’t establish that v10.10 uses the same implementation. ([fossies.org](https://fossies.org/dox/jellyfin-12.1/classJellyfin_1_1Data_1_1UserEntityExtensions.html?utm_source=openai))
If you meant a specific question—such as whether this causes a time-zone or daylight-saving issue—tell me what behavior you’re seeing.

Jellyfin v10.9.0 raw UserEntityExtensions.cs AccessSchedules DateTime ToLocalTime IsParentalScheduleAllowed
💡 Result:
The v10.9.0 file is at [`Jellyfin.Data/UserEntityExtensions.cs`](https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/blob/v10.9.0/Jellyfin.Data/UserEntityExtensions.cs).
The available source confirms that `IsParentalScheduleAllowed` checks the user’s `AccessSchedules`; its private overload accepts an `AccessSchedule` and a `DateTime`. It does **not** establish the exact `DateTime.ToLocalTime()` behavior in v10.9.0—the accessible documentation is for Jellyfin 12.1, so it can’t verify that version’s implementation. Evaluate the schedule in server-local time.
AccessScheduleWatcher.apply calls ToLocalTime() on the Roku, then passes the Roku-local weekday and seconds to all three schedule functions. Jellyfin 10.11.10 calls DateTime.UtcNow.ToLocalTime() on the server before evaluating AccessSchedules. For example, with a UTC server and a Roku in UTC−5, a Monday 09:00–17:00 schedule is already open at 05:00 Roku time, but the watcher can mark it blocked and report the wrong next opening. At 18:00 UTC, the inverse can leave the watcher unblocked after the server has closed access.
Keep accessSchedule inputs in server-local time. Correct AccessScheduleWatcher.apply to use the server's current time or an authoritative server schedule result. Do not fix this by changing the helper's weekday or hour comparisons.

Update AccessScheduleWatcher.apply so its weekday and seconds-of-day come from
server-local time or an authoritative server schedule result, not the Roku’s
ToLocalTime(). Pass that server-local time consistently to IsAllowed,
NextAccess, and SecondsToBoundary; leave the accessSchedule helper comparisons

this isn't possible until we have a way to actually retrieve server local time.

@benklop Thanks for clarifying. My recommendation assumed a server-local time source that the client does not have. I should not have presented this as a watcher-only fix.
The time-zone mismatch remains a limitation. Would you like a follow-up issue to track the missing server-time support?

Learning: For access-schedule reviews in Moonfin-Client/Roku, do not assume the client can retrieve Jellyfin server-local time. A proposed server-local schedule implementation must first identify an available server-time source or an authoritative server schedule result.

Summary
Jellyfin refuses a user's requests outside the hours of their access schedule, so when the time runs out the app just starts failing. This shows a "Time's up" screen instead, with the next time the account can be used, and stops playback. It is the Roku half of Moonfin-Core#1920 and Smart-TV#545, and follows the sign in message in #312 (the two don't depend on each other).

source/utils/accessSchedule.bs: Jellyfin's rule for access schedules (Everyday, Weekday, Weekend and single days, fractional hours, start and end both included), plus the next opening and the next moment the answer can change. Administrators are exempt on the server, so they are here too. Its cases are intest/access-schedule.bsand run fromnpm test.AccessScheduleWatcherandAccessScheduleTask: read the user's policy (GET /Users/{id}, no plugin needed; unlike/Users/Meit keeps answering outside the schedule) and look again at each opening and closing time and at least every minute, so a schedule changed while the app is running is noticed. One look at a time, a failed read keeps the last schedule and retries after 15 seconds, and a look for the previous user can't answer for the next. Emby is never watched.getJsonreads the status fromGetFailureReason()andrequestResponsefrom the response code, and both bump a newaccessRefusedglobal the watcher observes.Mainclears the queue, stops audio and video, and puts up theTimesUpscreen: the next opening ("today at", "tomorrow at", a weekday, or the weekday and date from a week out, in the device's 12 or 24 hour style) and one Switch User button. Every key is taken, so Back does nothing.locale/en_US/translations.ts.Testing
Tested on a TCL 43S405 Roku TV (Roku OS 15.3), sideloaded from
npm run build, against a Jellyfin server with a non-admin user whose schedule I moved in 30 minute steps: playback stops at the end of the window and the screen appears with the next opening time (including one a week out, which names the date), Back and the arrow keys do nothing, Switch User opens the user list with the account still listed, picking it again returns to the screen while closed, extending the schedule clears it within about a minute, a relaunch while closed lands on it, shortening the schedule while the app is running is noticed. Not tested: an administrator never being blocked (the watcher skips administrators, but I didn't try it on the TV, and Jellyfin exempts them anyway), and other Roku models. Whether
GetFailureReason()reports the 403 on every firmware isn't something I could check; the one minute look finds a refusal either way.npm run lintis clean andnpm testpasses (it needs Node 22 or newer forfs.glob).Test Steps
