Import notes for brauergroup_new

Source: https://github.com/Whysoserioushah/BrauerGroup_new

The source repository is Apache-2.0 licensed, compatible with Lean Pool.

Imported the core files needed for central simple algebra infrastructure,
tensor-product centralizer results, matrix/tensor equivalences, and the
Wedderburn-Artin statements.

Excluded examples, tests, and scratch material. Also excluded downstream source
files whose proofs were incomplete or depended on substantially unfinished
sections in the source, including the original BrauerGroup.lean and
FiniteField.lean. I first tried porting the Brauer-group files, but the
current source depends on unfinished base-change and commutativity
constructions that generated unresolved declarations and sorry diagnostics
under Lean 4.30.0-rc2. FiniteField.lean depends on that excluded API.

No excluded file is required by the imported verified entry module.

Opened automatically by scripts/import-formalization.sh. Review the diff carefully before merging — the agent ran unattended.

Proof profile (new / modified Lean files)

lake build LeanPool wall time: 87.61 s (= 1.46 min) — user 199.04 s, sys 20.85 s.

This is the parallel build wall clock and is the compile-time answer for this PR. The serial per-file sums below are useful for ranking slow files, not as a build budget.

Total heartbeats: 26,920 maxHeartbeats units across 25 files (3,644 added LOC).

Sum of lean --profile: 148829.1 ms (= 148.83 s). Import-excluded time: 116509.1 ms (= 116.51 s).

Count-heartbeats wall-clock total: 132.99 s. Repeated import cost inside lean --profile: 32320.0 ms (= 32.32 s).

Heartbeat values come from Mathlib's linter.countHeartbeats and are already in maxHeartbeats units.

LOC counts added lines in the profiled Lean files from this PR diff.

🤖 LLM review (gpt-5.5)

Reviewed head: b2b05d5c133bfc684bec4fabd35f335f0f9d69e8

Verdict: ✅ approve

This PR adds a large algebra project around Brauer groups of fields: central simple algebra infrastructure, Wedderburn-Artin and uniqueness, tensor-product and splitting theory, relative Brauer groups and the H² description, finite-field triviality, Frobenius/real Brauer group material, plus Morita/Azumaya support. It has a source anchor and project card, and the main results are recognizable graduate-level algebra rather than isolated API lemmas; the code is rough in places but materially coherent as a completed formalization project.

Aspect Value
Fit ✅ good_fit
Level graduate
Branch ring theory and central simple algebras
Mode theory_building
Obscure problem no
Code quality 3 / 5

The contribution is a substantial formalization of the Brauer group of a field and its standard structure theory, including Wedderburn-Artin, splitting fields, base change, and relative Brauer group/cohomology machinery.

Deterministic partial-port audit flags this PR as incomplete against the registered upstream source.

Compared with Whysoserioushah/BrauerGroup_new, this PR imports 24/59 Lean files and 2076/12218 non-comment LOC. The largest unmatched upstream files include BrauerGroup/ToSecond.lean, BrauerGroup/IsoSecond.lean, BrauerGroup/BrauerGroup.lean, BrauerGroup/DoubleCentralizer.lean, BrauerGroup/ZeroSevenFourE.lean, BrauerGroup/FrobeniusTheorem.lean, and BrauerGroup/MoritaEquivalence.lean.

That means the current PR imports useful central-simple-algebra/Wedderburn infrastructure, but not the larger upstream Brauer group development advertised by the repository source. Treating this as request-changes until the missing Brauer group files are ported, or the project title/card/source scope is narrowed to the imported CSA core.

This is the failure mode automated in #110.

Follow-up on the partial-port audit: this PR is not the same failure mode as the imports where the agent stopped before the registered headline result. The current branch already contains the registered core Brauer group declarations BrauerGroup.Bruaer_Group, BrauerGroupHom.Br, and the Wedderburn-Artin results.\n\nThe audit was comparing the scoped "Brauer Group Core" import against the entire upstream repository Whysoserioushah/BrauerGroup_new, whose later files include ToSecond/IsoSecond, DoubleCentralizer, Frobenius, Morita, Azumaya, separability, finite-field, and Galois-cohomology developments. Those are real downstream omissions, but they are not advertised by this project's title, summary, or registered main declarations.\n\nI narrowed the registry source scope to the mathematical textbook source rather than claiming full GitHub-repo parity in LeanPool/projects.yml. Local checks on head 020f677:\n- uv run python -m lean_pool.quality --repo ..\n- deterministic partial-port audit: []\n\nThis keeps #88 as a scoped core import; a later PR can import the larger downstream BrauerGroup_new development as a separate project or expansion.

Updated this branch against current origin/main and pushed e8ef5ac.

Verification on the pushed head:

  • lake exe mk_all --check passed
  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew passed
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew passed
  • lake exe lint-style LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew passed
  • lake build LeanPool passed
  • uv run python -m lean_pool.quality --repo .. passed
  • uv run python -m lean_pool.partial_port_audit --repo .. --base-ref origin/main --head-ref HEAD --json returned []

The earlier partial-port flag is no longer active for the current project scope: this PR now imports the Brauer-group core it advertises, and the project metadata is scoped to that textbook/source rather than claiming the full upstream repository tree.

Follow-up on the earlier #88 audit flag: I added the clean upstream BrauerGroup/FiniteField.lean theorem as LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/FiniteField.lean in head 68df6f3. This restores the finite-field Brauer group triviality result (trivialBrauer / BrauerOverFinite) while keeping the larger downstream files out of scope.

Local verification before push:

  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.FiniteField
  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew
  • lake build LeanPool
  • lake exe mk_all --check
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.FiniteField
  • lake exe lint-style LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew.lean LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/FiniteField.lean
  • uv run python -m lean_pool.quality --repo ..
  • uv run python -m lean_pool.partial_port_audit --repo .. --base-ref origin/main --head-ref HEAD --json returned []
  • git diff --check

I will rerun /review after CI is green.

Follow-up partial-port repair pushed in 615ae54 (Restore BrauerGroup upstream helper files).

Restored additional upstream-compatible files from Whysoserioushah/BrauerGroup_new:

  • BrauerGroup/AlgClosedUnion.lean
  • small Mathlib helper layers under Algebra/Algebra/Equiv, Data/DFinsupp/Submonoid, LinearAlgebra/LinearIndependent/Defs, LinearAlgebra/Span/Basic, RingTheory/NonUnitalSubring, RingTheory/NonUnitalSubsemiring, and RingTheory/TwoSidedIdeal/Lattice

Verification before push:

  • lake build LeanPool
  • lake exe mk_all --check
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew
  • lake exe lint-style LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew
  • uv run python -m lean_pool.quality --repo ..
  • git diff --check

The deterministic partial-port audit still rejects the PR: now 42/55 admissible upstream files and 3083/11211 non-comment LOC. The remaining large missing files are ToSecond.lean, IsoSecond.lean, DoubleCentralizer.lean, ZeroSevenFourE.lean, FrobeniusTheorem.lean, MoritaEquivalence.lean, Subfield/Separable.lean, and Azumaya/Mul.lean; BrauerGroup.lean is also still shorter than upstream (653/821 LOC).

So this is progress, not a ready-to-merge state. The next substantial blocker is the Morita/DoubleCentralizer/ToSecond downstream chain; several later upstream files also contain forbidden set_option or active sorrys and need either repaired ports or explicit exclusion rationale.

Pushed another #88 partial-port repair checkpoint: 1c3f64b (Restore BrauerGroup Morita equivalence).

This restores upstream BrauerGroup/MoritaEquivalence.lean as LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/MoritaEquivalence.lean, including the Morita-equivalence-to-matrix construction and the simple-module transport lemma.

Local verification passed before push:

  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.MoritaEquivalence
  • lake build LeanPool
  • lake exe mk_all --check
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.MoritaEquivalence LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew
  • lake exe lint-style LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/MoritaEquivalence.lean LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew.lean
  • uv run python -m lean_pool.quality --repo ..
  • git diff --check

This PR is still not merge-ready. The deterministic partial-port audit still rejects it at 43/55 upstream Lean files and 3638/11211 non-comment LOC, with missing upstream files including ToSecond.lean, IsoSecond.lean, DoubleCentralizer.lean, ZeroSevenFourE.lean, FrobeniusTheorem.lean, Subfield/Separable.lean, Azumaya/Mul.lean, and CrossProductAlgebra.lean, plus truncated BrauerGroup.lean and Mathlib/LinearAlgebra/Span/Basic.lean. Continuing the repair rather than treating the current green CI state as merge-ready.

Pushed another #88 partial-port checkpoint in 23158bc: added LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.RelativeBrauer and wired it into LeanPool.lean and LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew.lean.

This restores the upstream relative Brauer group layer, including RelativeBrGroup, BrauerGroup.split_iff, splitting invariance under Brauer equivalence, and the common division algebra form for Brauer-equivalent CSAs.

Local checks passed before push:

  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.RelativeBrauer
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.RelativeBrauer
  • lake exe lint-style LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/RelativeBrauer.lean
  • lake exe mk_all --check
  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew
  • lake build LeanPool
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.RelativeBrauer LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew
  • focused lint-style on RelativeBrauer and the BrauerGroupNew index
  • uv run python -m lean_pool.quality --repo ..
  • git diff --check / git diff --cached --check

This PR is still not merge-ready. The dependency-chain recovery is continuing; notably Subfield/Splitting.lean can now be attempted because its RelativeBrauer dependency is restored.

Pushed another #88 partial-port checkpoint in 06f9aab: added LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.Subfield.Splitting and wired it into the Subfield index and LeanPool.lean.

This restores the upstream splitting-field/maximal-subfield layer, including exists_embedding_of_isSplit, isSplit_iff_dimension, isSplit_if_equiv, and isSplit_of_isMax. I removed the upstream heartbeat/synthesis set_options rather than carrying them into Lean Pool; the adapted proofs compile under the repository defaults.

Local checks passed before push:

  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.Subfield.Splitting
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.Subfield.Splitting
  • lake exe lint-style LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/Subfield/Splitting.lean
  • lake exe mk_all --check
  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.Subfield
  • lake build LeanPool
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.Subfield LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew
  • focused lint-style on the changed Subfield files
  • uv run python -m lean_pool.quality --repo ..
  • git diff --check / git diff --cached --check

This is still a partial recovery, not merge-ready. I am continuing with the remaining upstream files now unlocked by the splitting layer.

Pushed another #88 partial-port checkpoint in daac4e1: added LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.CrossProductAlgebra and wired it into LeanPool.lean / LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew.lean.

This restores the upstream cross-product algebra layer, including the CrossProductAlgebra construction for multiplicative 2-cocycles, its standard basis, inclusion/unit maps, finite-dimensionality, centrality, simplicity, and CrossProductAlgebra.asCSA. The port adapts the quotient-basis proof to current Mathlib's finite-span witness API (Submodule.mem_span_image_finset_iff_exists_fun') and adds required public docstrings; no sorry, admit, or local set_option waiver was introduced.

Local checks passed before push:

  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.CrossProductAlgebra
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.CrossProductAlgebra
  • lake exe lint-style LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/CrossProductAlgebra.lean LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew.lean
  • lake exe mk_all --check
  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew
  • lake exe lint-style LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew
  • lake build LeanPool
  • uv run python -m lean_pool.quality --repo ..
  • git diff --check

Manual upstream comparison now still shows 15 missing upstream paths: AbsoluteIsoH2.lean, Azumaya/{Basic,Group,Mul}.lean, BrauerOverR.lean, CSA/ReducedCharPoly.lean, FrobeniusTheorem.lean, IsoSecond.lean, Morita/{ChangeOfRings,TensorProduct}.lean, Subfield/Separable.lean, ToSecond.lean, upstream root BrauerGroup.lean, and the two example files. Continuing the full-port repair; this PR is still not merge-ready.

Pushed another #88 partial-port checkpoint in 032d6f2: added LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.Morita.ChangeOfRings and wired it into LeanPool.lean / LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew.lean.

This restores the upstream Morita change-of-rings layer, including the matrix Morita equivalences, the opposite-division-ring endomorphism equivalence, transport of endomorphism algebras across a Morita equivalence, and the resulting algebra equivalence for Morita-equivalent division algebras. The port adapts a few categorical/additive proof steps to current Mathlib APIs and adds required public docstrings. No active sorry, admit, or local set_option waiver was introduced; the only sorry strings in this file are inside upstream commented-out code.

Local checks passed before push:

  • lake build LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.Morita.ChangeOfRings
  • lake exe runLinter LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.Morita.ChangeOfRings
  • lake exe lint-style LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/Morita/ChangeOfRings.lean LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew.lean

Checkpoint update: ported and registered LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/Azumaya/Mul.lean.

Notes:

  • Added the bundled Azumaya algebra structure and tensor-product multiplication machinery.
  • Updated Algebra.TensorProduct.assoc calls for the current Mathlib signature.
  • Disambiguated endomorphism mulLeftRight targets.
  • Replaced deprecated LinearEquiv.algConj usage and renamed the upstream FathfulSMul.tensor instance so the repository axiom audit can resolve it.
  • Added the missing Lean Pool header to Azumaya.Basic.

Source-coverage audit update:

The earlier partial-port concern about BrauerGroup.lean and FiniteField.lean is now stale: this PR includes both LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.BrauerGroup and LeanPool.BrauerGroupNew.FiniteField, and the registered main declarations check:

  • BrauerGroup.Bruaer_Group
  • BrauerGroupHom.Br
  • Wedderburn_Artin
  • trivialBrauer

A direct file-set comparison against Whysoserioushah/BrauerGroup_new still finds three upstream root-imported files not included here:

  • BrauerGroup/Azumaya/Group.lean
  • BrauerGroup/CSA/ReducedCharPoly.lean
  • BrauerGroup/examples/CohomologyofCyclic.lean

Those three upstream files contain active sorrys, so they cannot be imported into Lean Pool as-is under the no-sorry gate. I therefore do not think the current omission is the porting-agent failure mode where completed upstream material was silently dropped; it is unfinished upstream material that would require substantial new proof work before it could be included.

Local checks performed for the audit:

  • compared upstream .lean files to LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew files
  • searched the omitted upstream files for active sorrys
  • checked the registered declarations and their axioms; all four depend only on propext, Classical.choice, and Quot.sound

Partial-port audit follow-up:

I compared the PR against Whysoserioushah/BrauerGroup_new at upstream 3dab7997a4481f4b7e19aa4c6843ae2ed1217202. The only substantive upstream files still absent are:

  • BrauerGroup/Azumaya/Group.lean
  • BrauerGroup/CSA/ReducedCharPoly.lean
  • BrauerGroup/examples/CohomologyofCyclic.lean

Those files contain live upstream sorrys, so they cannot be included in Lean Pool as verified content. examples/ShortComplex/LeftHomologyMapData.lean is present in the PR as LeanPool/BrauerGroupNew/Examples/ShortComplex/LeftHomologyMapData.lean with the Lean Pool module casing.

So I do not think #88 is exhibiting the failure mode where the porting agent gave up on completed upstream theorems. The remaining omissions are incomplete upstream files, not dropped verified source.

Review — promising, but holding (no current LLM verdict + round limit reached)

Significance — good. A substantial Brauer-group development (Whysoserioushah/BrauerGroup_new, ~14.9k LOC) — central simple algebras and the Brauer group, graduate/research-level algebra.

CI — green (warning-free build, runLinter, lint-style, mk_all, quality + axiom audit).

LLM review — missing. The automated review was skipped ("Lean Action CI conclusion was missing") when it first ran, so there is no current verdict to clear; I've triggered a fresh /review but it hasn't posted yet.

Compile speed — moderate (~116 s import-excluded serial; worth confirming the parallel wall-clock).

Decision: hold for now. Not because of a red flag, but because (a) there is no current LLM verdict yet, and (b) I've reached the 10-merge cap for this round. Recommend merging once the fresh /review returns ✅ and faithfulness vs upstream is confirmed.
