Adds conditional uniqueness and bisection for the unit-wage normalized clearing equation

mean household assets = α / ((1 - α) * (r + δ)), with α = 9/25, δ = 2/25.

Households have log utility, discount 24/25, no borrowing and a finite asset cap. The Tauchen endpoint constructs finite Gaussian-CDF earnings chains and proves that two stationary normalized-clearing rates in (-2/25, 1/24) coincide, subject to the explicit cap-slack inequality at their larger rate. Earnings have an arbitrary positive scale: no mean-one endowment or wage/asset-cap scaling bridge identifies this equation with full competitive Aiyagari market clearing. Bisection assumes a root and a stationary-distribution selection; it proves bracketing, a geometric midpoint-error bound and convergence of left endpoints.

The reusable closure includes real and extended-real Berge maximum theorems, Blackwell/Bellman contractions, Feller and stationary-distribution theory, Doeblin convergence, Euler inequalities, consumption concavity and marginal-propensity bounds. Generic monotone-chain uniqueness requires positive one-step access to a lowest-income state; Tauchen proves that property. This coherent theory development supplies substantial preservation value beyond the calibrated endpoint.

  • Upstream: LeanEconomics/LeanEconomics at 8295256bbd64ab488c8cb436d68e7064db560dfc.
  • Material completion: Tauchen construction/uniqueness commit, 2026-09-18 07:21:51 UTC. Eligible window: [2026-08-18 09:45:12, 2026-10-11 09:45:12) UTC; refresh/index dates were not used.
  • License: actual upstream Apache-2.0 LICENSE and source headers checked; Robert Kirkby's attribution retained. Provenance AI: upstream credits mostly Claude-written Lean under Kirkby's direction.
  • Scope: exactly 55 upstream production modules reachable from Models.AiyagariTauchenWitness and Equilibrium.Bisection, plus entry/Imports wrappers and one YAML card (58 content files). Separate OLG certificate development is outside the dependency closure.
  • Deduplication: current pool cards/source, open and merged PRs, issues/history, pinned Mathlib and bounded current Tau Ceti paths/source. No duplicate import/headline found. Related Tau Ceti Koopman machinery concerns measure-preserving composition on measurable-function germs rather than this household model. Bounded comparison does not establish exhaustive semantic non-equivalence.

Ported to Lean v4.35.0-rc3 and Mathlib c55e6e786f49471c72fbddbec5415808896aec1e. Converted module/public-import boundaries, generated wrappers, repaired syntax/style/docstrings, and removed four upstream linter suppressions by fixing/generalizing instance requirements. LeanPool.lean, pins, manifest, infrastructure and all gates are unchanged.

Optimization replaces expensive nonlinear searches with explicit inequalities, linear combinations and restricted hypotheses; eleven redundant import edges were removed and one narrow import added. General arguments now support fixed-point and continuation-level envelope differentiation, policy uniqueness/monotonicity, consumption exchange, continuation slopes, marginal floors and concavity limits. The latest pass shares proportional-saving deviations and cap-slack comparisons across CRRA, shifted CRRA and the fixed point; norm-based consumption floors specialize the oscillation proof; both MPC families use one shifted Euler step. Four general lemmas were added and twelve declarations moved to earlier layers in this pass, with none removed. Two value bounds generalize the borrowing floor; one Euler helper drops a redundant impatience input. All four card endpoint types are unchanged. The zero-shift specialization uses the existing haraUtility_zero_shift API. A further review cleanup removes redundant boundedness from four saving/cap helpers, positivity premises from the patience/MPC upper-bound and derived cap helper APIs, and a derivable corner-threshold premise; all callers are updated. These helpers are strengthened, and all four card endpoint types are unchanged.

Source repairs distinguish the formal normalized equation from competitive clearing and reconcile precise paper references:

  • Açıkgöz's April 2016 draft: decline Proposition 3 and finite bound Proposition 4 (printed p.8); stationary uniqueness Proposition 5 (p.9, Appendix E p.32). Differing capped hypotheses are disclosed.
  • Light's October 31, 2018 draft: Theorem 1 compares interest rates at fixed assets. The fixed-rate asset-monotonicity witness no longer claims that attribution. Draft Lemmas 4 and 5 identify the scaling and concavity ingredients (printed p.13).
  • Carroll–Shanker's 2025-12-05 draft, Lemma 1, supplies the related buffer-stock consumption-share bounds; our finite capped-model version states its own positivity/cap-slack hypotheses. Unverified precise Huggett/Marcet labels and an unsupported cap converse were replaced by the proved statements and related bibliographic references.

Compile measurements use /usr/bin/time -v lake build LeanPool.AiyagariEquilibrium.Imports, cleaning only own-project outputs, with the same warm pinned package cache on the shared 16-CPU Azure VM. These three exact-source control builds were sequential with no concurrent local checks:

Source Wall User CPU
Frozen original baseline 2c602d01, fresh recheck 166.93 s 254.46 s
Final 485ec3475, first clean run 124.80 s 206.79 s
Same final head, repeat clean run 112.33 s 202.22 s
Final median 118.57 s 204.51 s

Observed reduction from the original baseline: 29.0% wall / 19.6% user CPU. Shared-host variability is disclosed. The initial baseline (133.73 s / 242.27 s) and all intermediate samples are retained rather than mixed across host periods. The preceding b6185fae batch is retained separately (baseline 144.04/245.21, optimized median 117.455/204.24), as are all earlier samples; no host-period samples are mixed. The final follow-up also removes redundant helper assumptions without changing the advertised endpoints. Earlier three-run alternating hotspot medians were NaturalAssetBound 12.161→6.058 s, MinimalMPC 9.359→6.734 s and IncomeFluctuationIterate 11.341→7.635 s, with all 18 runs successful. Targeted warm-file profiles guided consolidation; moved work is assessed with whole-project controls.

Local validation passes: warning-free clean builds; mk_all --check; project style; repository-wide static quality; all 15 slow declaration linters over 57 modules / 1,656 compiled declarations; allowed-axiom and compiled environment/option audits, including generated declarations; all four card endpoints and content-only scope. 1,024 textual declarations, no sorry/admit, custom axiom, unsafe/partial/native_decide, forbidden override or suppression. Allowed closure is limited to Classical.choice, propext, Quot.sound. No Python source changed.

Earlier heads 25772bbb and 3c6b0008 passed full CI; neither validates this final follow-up. Independent reviews requested the source/maintenance repairs described above. The subsequent premise cleanup passes its warning-free build, index/style checks and the full compiled linter/trust audit; two fresh warning-free clean control builds pass; exact-head CI and independent re-review remain required. No queue or auto-merge is enabled.

The source comparison follow-up (485ec3475) restores Toda's uniformity and borrowing qualifications in all three modules; it claims no HARA necessity for one capped household. Toda's November 2020 draft, Theorem 4 / Corollary 5 / Section 3, was checked directly. The broader audit also distinguishes Ma–Toda's March 8, 2021 draft, Corollary 2.10 and standing assumptions, from this capped model and its conditional lower-bound/algebra results. Walsh–Young's November 19, 2025 draft supports the numerical comparison; its model scope and retained sample count are now explicit. Unverified exact textbook/Clarida comparison labels and historical bisection attribution were removed while source credit remains.

The same follow-up drops unused impatience premises from three MPC inductions, their seven derived APIs and four caller helpers, with all callers updated. Fourteen additional helpers are strengthened; no original declaration or important generality is removed. All four actual card theorem types are unchanged. Warning-free build, generated indexes, style, repository-wide static quality, all 15 slow linters and compiled axiom/option/card audits pass (57 modules / 1,024 textual / 1,656 compiled declarations). Two fresh warning-free clean builds pass. Current-head CI and independent review remain pending. No queue or auto-merge is enabled.

Required current-head CI 39149121789 is running. Greptile completed on this head at 17:26:18 UTC with no actionable defect; its advisory turn leaves external source/license/provenance/novelty verification to the broader source review. Independent GPT review is requested for this exact head. No queue or auto-merge is enabled.

Separate thorough review checkpoint for 485ec3475b6b86494b0705d00d82384e9e5cde06: final conclusion pending required CI and independent re-review. No queue or auto-merge is enabled.

The source/diff/declaration review covers the public 55-module upstream closure, all 58 content files in bounded slices, every port/optimization/follow-up delta, endpoint definitions and actual compiled types, primary citations, profiles and complete compiled trust evidence. The full 14-file latest delta is inspected. No original declaration is removed; all four actual card theorem types are unchanged.

Latest findings are repaired: Toda's necessity statement is qualified by uniformity across arbitrary laws and permission to borrow; no impossibility is inferred for a fixed capped household. The primary November 2020 draft was checked. A broader audit identifies Ma-Toda's March 2021 Corollary 2.10 and standing/uncapped scope; verifies Walsh-Young's November 2025 numerical edition and distinguishes its competitive model; removes unverified exact textbook/Clarida comparison labels and historical bisection attribution while retaining credit. The 14 MPC/derived/caller APIs lose unused impatience premises, and their callers are updated.

Earlier source and proof-sharing repairs remain present, including literal normalized-clearing scope, verified Light/Acikgoz/Carroll-Shanker editions, shared envelope/policy/saving/cap/floor/concavity/Euler arguments and reuse of the existing zero-shift lemma.

Local checks pass: warning-free build, generated indexes, style, repository-wide static quality, all 15 slow linters and compiled axiom/option/card audits over 57 modules / 1,024 textual / 1,656 compiled declarations. Only Classical.choice/propext/Quot.sound allowed; no sorry/admit, custom axiom, unsafe/partial/native_decide, forbidden override or suppression. Fixed root, pins, manifest and infrastructure unchanged.

Fresh exact-source clean control builds are running. Required CI 39149121789 and independent review request remain pending. The completed review will give a clear conclusion after these results arrive; earlier receipts do not validate this head.

Advisory cross-file review against Lean Pool's supervisory rubric. This is not by itself a significance, source-verification, or merge verdict.

RetriggerView in Greptile

[Low impact] No actionable defect was found in the follow-up, but external source, license, provenance and exhaustive novelty checks remain open.

Summary

Adds conditional uniqueness and bisection for normalized clearing in capped log-household models, including finite Tauchen earnings chains.

  • Lean now includes reusable proofs for household saving and equilibrium analysis.
  • Finite Tauchen log households have at most one normalized clearing rate.
  • Bisection narrows a rate bracket around a given normalized clearing solution.

Statement check: The economic endpoints establish conditional uniqueness and root-assuming bisection for the stated normalized clearing equation, without claiming solution existence or equivalence to full competitive clearing.

The development derives consumption concavity, consumption-share bounds, stationary-distribution uniqueness and convergence, and rate comparative statics culminating in conditional normalized-clearing uniqueness for finite Tauchen households.

Sources findings (2)

  • source-mismatch — LeanPool/AiyagariEquilibrium/Models/IncomeFluctuationRateMonotone.lean:60
Toda (2021), Theorem 4 and Corollary 5 require consumption concavity across arbitrary distributions of returns and income; Section 3 also identifies borrowing as essential to the necessity argument. This does not establish impossibility outside HARA for a fixed capped IncomeFluctuation model. Restore the uniformity qualification here, in Analysis/HARA.lean:15–17, and in Models/IncomeFluctuationCarrollKimball.lean:74–84, and remove the inference that this model cannot admit concavity outside HARA.
Evidence: The diff says: ‘concavity of the consumption function, which by Toda (2021) is
unavailable outside HARA.’ Analysis/HARA.lean adds ‘so it is the class in which Carroll and Kimball (1996) -- and hence Light's
uniqueness argument -- can possibly hold.’ The household declaration is structure IncomeFluctuation, with scalar fields interest : ℝ and discount : ℝ≥0; concaveOn_consumptionFn_of_preserves concerns its fixed capped household problem.

Code quality findings (2)

  • unused-hypothesis — LeanPool/AiyagariEquilibrium/Models/MinimalMPC.lean:245
The impatience premise hβR is unused in the inductions at lines 243, 362 and 445, then merely forwarded by seven derived helpers at lines 282, 311, 407, 419, 479, 512 and 547. Remove it from these APIs and update callers to avoid unnecessary proof obligations.
    Evidence: crra_minMPC_mul_le_consumptionFnOf, crra_minMPC_of_cap and hara_minMPC_mul_le_consumptionFnOf each take (hβR : (P.discount : ℝ) * (1 + P.interest) < 1). • prompt-injection — PR-wide
The supplied discussion embeds approval for another head, creating an anchoring risk for this independent review; that prior-approval claim was disregarded.
Evidence: Discussion comment 6249758487 in .review-pr.json states “Reviewed head: b6185faeeb293c91a48db1f7f4c70bdfc423f4fd” and “Verdict: ✅ approve — computed from the rubric verdicts below, not chosen by a model.”

Requesting a fresh independent review of repaired head 3c6b0008bc12c27adcfc6e688c1e56f9436f40b1.

The card and endpoint documentation now describe the literal unit-wage normalized clearing equation and the missing competitive-clearing bridge. Açıkgöz references identify the April 2016 draft and page/proposition numbers. The repeated proof families and unused calculations identified in the preceding review have been repaired in f2396600; 3c6b0008 aligns remaining endpoint docstrings. Formal headline signatures are unchanged.

Required exact-head CI is still running. Earlier-head CI is not validation of this source. This request allows source review to overlap compilation; no CI success or merge readiness is claimed. No queue or auto-merge is enabled.

Requesting independent review of 3e7616b8d96961872d625786c588309519e439d8.

The fixed-rate asset-monotonicity witness no longer claims Light's interest-rate Theorem 1. Numbered Light references identify the verified October 31, 2018 draft; related source references were checked and qualified. The proportional-saving/cap, oscillation/norm consumption-floor and CRRA/HARA Euler families now share general arguments. Declaration comparison preserves every prior source declaration and all four card endpoint headers; helper generalizations are documented in the PR body.

Local clean-build measurements and full lint/trust evidence have been updated for this source. Required exact-head CI is running; earlier-head success does not validate this follow-up. No queue or auto-merge is enabled.

The shared shifted-CRRA Euler step supplies the actual derivative, positivity and current-continuation cap-slack premises; ordinary and simultaneous inductions use their existing witnesses. The CRRA one-step helper now proves the same conclusion with its unused betaR<1 hypothesis removed. The two named value bounds remain public after moving to the earlier monotonicity module and generalizing the borrowing floor. The changed helper calls are updated; this is not a claim of identical argument signatures.",

Please review final follow-up b6185faeeb293c91a48db1f7f4c70bdfc423f4fd. It reuses the existing haraUtility_zero_shift theorem and removes the redundant addition from the preceding head. All original source declarations and the four card theorem types are preserved; the source-citation and shared-proof repairs are described in the updated PR body.

Both exact-source clean builds, all 15 slow linters, style/static checks and compiled trust/option audits pass locally (57 modules, 1,024 textual / 1,656 compiled declarations). Fresh whole-project controls are recorded for this head. Required exact-head CI remains required; older-head results do not replace it. No queue or auto-merge is enabled.

Please review the current head acdafaef955796e7a7e7c7366dac0ed5ef298041 independently. The follow-up removes the three redundant public premises identified in the last receipt and their now-redundant caller assumptions: eight helper APIs strengthened, no declarations removed. minMPC_le_one and its cap-bound consequence now require neither risk-aversion positivity nor positive discount. All four card theorem types are unchanged. Warning-free build, generated indexes, style, static quality, all15 slow linters and compiled trust/options audit pass (57modules/1656compiled declarations). Fresh clean performance controls are running; required new-head CI remains pending. Prior-head verdicts do not validate this head.

"mathematical_delta": "Eight helper statements are strengthened by removing ten redundant explicit premises. Four CRRA saving/cap helpers no longer ask callers for Bounded utility: their shared oscillation, concavity, marginal-bound and positive-consumption arguments already supply the proof. The HARA corner helper no longer separately assumes a nonnegative threshold when the queried asset's interval membership supplies that ordering. patience_pos does not need positive risk aversion. minMPC_le_one now proves its upper bound for every real gamma using nonnegativity of the real power and quotient, with the household's nonnegative discount and positive gross return. Its derived cap helper consequently needs neither a separate positive-gamma nor a positive-discount premise. Other economic hypotheses, including those used for positive MPCs and the Euler inductions, remain where needed.",

Please independently review current head 485ec3475b6b86494b0705d00d82384e9e5cde06. Toda uniformity/borrowing scope is qualified in all3modules; no fixed capped-model HARA necessity is claimed. A broader primary-source audit distinguishes Ma-Toda uncapped asymptotics from our conditional capped results and identifies Walsh-Young edition/numerics; unverified exact comparison labels are removed while credit remains. Fourteen MPC/derived/caller APIs drop unused impatience premises. All four actual compiled card types are unchanged. The full14file delta is inspected; warning-free build/index/style/static quality/all15linters/trust/options/card audits pass. Fresh clean controls and required CI remain pending. Prior-head verdicts do not validate this head.

"The literature comparisons now respect their domains. Toda's necessity claim is uniform across arbitrary return/income laws with the stated regularity and borrowing assumptions; it does not establish necessity for a single fixed capped household. The Ma–Toda asymptotic formula concerns its uncapped infinite-horizon model under the standing assumptions, rather than identifying the capped policy. The explicit conditional consumption bound remains visible.",
