Adds completed microwave network synthesis theory: phase-only networks are precisely permuted phase-diagonal matrices, networks with hybrid couplers have a finite layered normal form, and normalized DFT matrices of every power-of-two size are implementable. This is a paper-backed applied-mathematics development, with finite-type reindexing, independent port permutations, and block-diagonal composition infrastructure useful beyond the particular DFT construction.

The claims concern the source's reciprocal matched-network transmission-matrix model. The card does not claim a general scattering-physics theorem, nor the paper's Hadamard/Haar extensions.

Source, eligibility, and attribution

  • Public upstream: https://github.com/matteonerini/formalizing-analog-computing
  • Exact source: a89c1e9263658c20a29046f9ed1a8eeb867dd537.
  • Material proof completion: commit 43e5f9048f95c1560a5c159e8c4c2e42522ce013, 2026-09-30 23:58:57 UTC, adds both complete proof modules; the September 28 initial repository only contained introductory material.
  • Public research announcement: arXiv:2610.04774, v1 submitted 2026-10-03 21:30:09 UTC. Both dates fall within this acquisition run's fixed window, 2026-09-30 09:15:19 UTC through 2026-10-07 09:15:19 UTC (end exclusive).
  • Apache-2.0 verified from upstream LICENSE and source headers. Original copyright and author credits retained.
  • provenance: mix: upstream umbrella credits Matteo Nerini and Claude AI, and its README/paper disclose Claude assistance in developing the Lean code. This classification follows those joint credits; no quantitative authorship fraction is asserted.
  • Imported coherent closure: the two MiLAC proof modules (991 upstream lines), plus their attribution. No extra upstream dependency or monorepo content is vendored. Adapted code, shared helper, entrypoint, and generated aggregate total 1,018 Lean lines.
  • Registry, project directories, issue/PR searches, and repository history contain no existing import. Exact-name and component searches in Mathlib and public TauCeti code found no corresponding development. Mathlib's Fourier/matrix infrastructure is prior infrastructure, not the network synthesis characterizations added here.

Port and measured optimization

Ported from Lean/Mathlib v4.35.0-rc2 to this main's v4.35.0-rc3 and Mathlib c55e6e786f49471c72fbddbec5415808896aec1e, preserving all three headline theorem statements and all useful upstream infrastructure.

  • Replaced the broad permutation-matrix import with its definitionally identical PEquiv.toMatrix API; import closure drops from 2,455 to 1,969 Lake jobs including project modules.
  • Added a sparse entry formula for permuted phase diagonals. Composition proofs use one nonzero entry rather than expanding repeated matrix products and finite sums.
  • Shared component matrices, composition definitions, parallel-entry lemmas and the phase-only diagonal construction in Basic.lean. Both classification modules depend directly on it; a phase-only-to-hybrid conversion theorem replaces the duplicate diagonal proof.
  • ImplementableOn now requires an explicit finite relabelling witness, with a theorem excluding infinite index types and a theorem transferring any witness to any other finite relabelling. Reindexing and block composition no longer need unused decidable-equality or finite-enumeration assumptions. Shared mathematical definitions expose their bodies for downstream proofs under Lean’s module system.
  • No heartbeat overrides, linter suppressions, trust bypasses, or gate/configuration changes.

Controlled command: lake build LeanPool.MicrowaveNetworks.Imports, after removing all this project's own build outputs before each run, with the same warm pinned dependency cache, unchanged project entrypoint/card, default Lake parallelism, and no other acquisition build/profile/lint running. Shared Azure VM load is not controlled.

Measurement Baseline port Optimized import
Full clean project wall time, two final runs 16.48 s, 5.46 s 5.68 s, 7.63 s
Median of those two runs 10.97 s 6.65 s
Phase classification module, second run 1.7 s 1.7 s
Hybrid module, second run 2.4 s 3.5 s
Shared module, second run — 1.1 s
series_permutedPhaseDiagonal, raw profiler heartbeats 12,296,441 2,635,900
parallel_permutedPhaseDiagonal, raw profiler heartbeats 13,042,110 1,123,490

Wall times vary substantially under shared VM load; no reliable wall-clock speedup is asserted from these samples. The earlier pre-sharing pair measured 8.39–8.58 s versus 6.77–8.07 s. The stable evidence is reduced import closure and per-declaration elaboration work.

Profiling used synchronous elaboration with -DElab.async=false -Dtrace.Elab.command=true -Dtrace.profiler=true -Dtrace.profiler.useHeartbeats=true, and compared the maximum reported work per declaration to avoid counting macro wrappers twice. The two composition proofs reduce measured elaboration work by about 79% and 91%. Remaining expensive declarations were inspected: the ordinary 2×2 block factorization and DFT exponential identity require short scalar-algebra proofs; no further material safe simplification was evident. The initial 45.96 s build included cold Lake/configuration overhead and is not used for the controlled comparison.

Validation and review

Local checks passed:

  • Warning-free clean project/entrypoint/aggregate build.
  • lake exe mk_all --module --check.
  • Project style checker.
  • All slow Mathlib declaration linters across all five owned modules: 181 declarations.
  • Repository-wide static quality checks, including metadata/card synchronization, headers, sizes, and prohibited syntax, passed on the final repaired revision.
  • Transitive axiom audit of 80 public textual declarations, compiled environment option/trust audit including generated declarations, and resolution of all three card endpoints: no errors; only the repository's allowed axioms.
  • git diff --check.

No Python code or infrastructure changed. The full repository is intentionally left to CI as the final authority. Greptile’s first review found two API/maintenance concerns; both were repaired (finite-witness implementability and shared components/proof reuse). Configured Greptile/GPT reviews and the separate complete source/diff/declaration review will be checked for this repaired head before normal protected merge. The native-queue/split-registry migration branches are untouched; this PR follows the current main layout while that migration is pending.

Separate thorough acquisition review of ec92cdc1be47bae3a1ca4f84735071723605987f: APPROVE for content. Required CI and configured automated reviews remain pending, so merge is not yet authorized.

I inspected both complete upstream proof files (991 lines), the actual seven-file PR diff without elision, all three endpoint types and their dependency closures, the paper/source claims, the trust audit, build and per-declaration profile evidence. The following dimensions were judged separately under the checked-in rubrics.

Advisory cross-file review against Lean Pool's supervisory rubric. This is not by itself a significance, source-verification, or merge verdict.

Retrigger

[Low risk] Adds mathematical proofs for microwave network synthesis.

No blocking issue remains in the reviewed code; this is not an independent approval of the unavailable upstream source evidence.

Summary

Adds phase-only and hybrid-coupler synthesis proofs, plus implementation of normalized DFT matrices of size 2^L.

  • Both previous findings are fully addressed.
  • Shared components now live in Basic.lean; the hybrid model reuses the phase-only diagonal construction.
  • The three headline theorem types match the project card within the stated transmission-matrix model.
  • No new actionable issue was found.
  • External source fidelity, upstream completeness, and the upstream license were not independently verified. Build and profiling results are author-supplied; no code was executed during this review.

Separate thorough review of repaired head 7a7e9a6ba9e4af0b1767f226a068f4458116e40f: APPROVE for content. All local checks pass. Required CI and the current-head configured automated reviews remain pending, so merge remains blocked.

The two Greptile findings are repaired and their original threads have replies and resolutions. I reviewed the complete repaired diff, including the finite-witness predicate, its infinite-type exclusion, all reindexing/block consumers, the shared component and phase-only implementation definitions, and the conversion used by the hybrid diagonal proof. All three advertised endpoints retain their strength.

Acquisition run status for 7a7e9a6ba9e4af0b1767f226a068f4458116e40f: open, blocked on external CI/review progress.

All local checks pass, including the clean warning-free build, generated indexes, project style, all slow linters (181 declarations), whole-repository static quality, transitive axiom audit (80 public textual declarations), compiled option/trust audit, all three endpoint checks, and clean diff. The separate thorough review approves this head. Greptile's second review completed successfully, confirms both previous findings fully addressed, and reports no new actionable issue.

At 2026-10-07 10:25:57 UTC, the current Plan build job remained queued with runner_id: 0, an empty runner name, and no executed steps. Documentation preflight and content separation are also queued. No required build result exists yet. The obsolete initial-head workflow had remained stuck in a canceled workflow's final job; force-canceling only that obsolete #612 run released the current-head run into its normal queue. No unrelated PR run or migration branch was changed.

An explicit /review request is posted for the final head; the configured GPT worker has not published a result. The PR remains open and auto-merge is disabled until required CI is green and that review is received and resolved. The split-registry migration #611 remains unmerged, so this PR continues to use current main's layout. No CI, gate, protection, review-rule, or linter configuration changed.

Proof profile (new / modified Lean files)

lake build wall time (changed modules): 20.52 s (= 0.34 min) — user 15.63 s, sys 5.28 s.

This build covers the changed modules and their dependency cones on top of the restored cache. The serial per-file sums below are useful for ranking slow files, not as a build budget.

Total heartbeats: 164,256 maxHeartbeats units across 5 valid files (1,018 added LOC).

Sum of lean --profile: 13514.9 ms (= 13.51 s) across 5 valid files. Import-excluded time: 7782.9 ms (= 7.78 s).

Count-heartbeats wall-clock total: 25.73 s. Repeated import cost inside lean --profile: 5732.0 ms (= 5.73 s).

Heartbeat values sum disjoint root command traces with trace.profiler.useHeartbeats and synchronous elaboration, converted from raw allocations to maxHeartbeats units by dividing by 1000. They include command elaboration and kernel checking, exclude imports, and include profiler overhead; they are not comparable to the deprecated linter's totals. Per-file wall clocks are measured under parallel load and are noisier than heartbeats.

LOC counts added lines in the profiled Lean files from this PR diff.

🤖 LLM review (gpt-6.1-sol, 5 rubrics)

Reviewed head: 7a7e9a6ba9e4af0b1767f226a068f4458116e40f

Verdict: ✅ approve — computed from the rubric verdicts below, not chosen by a model.

Rubric Verdict Bottom line
Faithfulness ✅ pass All three headlines match the Lean in the disclosed transmission-matrix model; local build verification stopped at a Mathlib-fetch HTTP 403, and Lean CI remains queued.
Novelty ✅ pass Independent searches of pinned Mathlib and the pool found no declaration subsuming any of the three microwave headlines.
Significance ✅ pass The network normal forms and uniform DFT construction meet the significance bar; CI remains pending, and the targeted local build stopped before compilation because fetching pinned Mathlib returned HTTP 403.
Sources ✅ pass The paper and pinned upstream support all three cited results, and the imported formalization is credited; CI remains in progress.
Code quality (advisory) ✅ pass Shared components, implementable_of_phaseShifters, sparse-entry composition proofs, and reusable reindexing/block lemmas provide maintainable code; CI remains pending, and local compilation was not run because the checkout lacks Mathlib sources and oleans.
Aspect Value
Proves the claim ✅ proves_it
Matches cited source ✅ matches
Fit ✅ good_fit
Level graduate
Branch network synthesis and signal processing
Mode theory_building
Code quality 4 / 5

Statement check: The two classifications are equivalences over every finite dimension and matrix, and implementable_dft proves implementability of the normalized complex DFT for every natural exponent, including size one.

implementable_iff_permutedPhaseDiagonal and implementable_iff_layered establish compositional network normal forms, while implementable_dft realizes normalized DFT matrices of every power-of-two size through a radix-2 butterfly construction.

Faithfulness findings (1)

  • prompt-injection — PR-wide
The contributor-supplied discussion presents prior approval claims and precomputed faithfulness verdicts for both heads; these have no authority over this independent review and were disregarded.
Evidence: prose only: .review-pr.json comments 1 and 4 claim APPROVE for content and embed faithfulness verdicts of pass.

Novelty findings (1)

  • prompt-injection — PR-wide
Two contributor discussion comments claim prior content approval and supply completed novelty verdicts; accepting these would replace independent prior-art review with contributor assertions, so they were disregarded.
Evidence: The discussion includes ‘APPROVE for content’ for both ec92cdc and 7a7e9a6, each accompanied by a novelty verdict of pass.

Significance findings (1)

  • prompt-injection — .review-pr.json:1
The discussion asserts prior approval for both heads and embeds significance verdicts, risking substitution of contributor-controlled assertions for this independent assessment; disregard those claims when deciding this dimension.
Evidence: comments[0] states: Separate thorough acquisition review of ec92cdc1be47bae3a1ca4f84735071723605987f: APPROVE for content. comments[3] states: Separate thorough review of repaired head 7a7e9a6ba9e4af0b1767f226a068f4458116e40f: APPROVE for content. Both include a significance verdict of pass.

Sources findings (1)

  • prompt-injection — PR-wide
Two contributor comments claim prior approval and supply prewritten source-review verdicts. These could substitute asserted authority for independent verification; they were disregarded, and the paper and pinned proof modules were checked directly.
Evidence: PR discussion: 'Separate thorough acquisition review of ec92cdc1be47bae3a1ca4f84735071723605987f: APPROVE for content.' and 'Separate thorough review of repaired head 7a7e9a6ba9e4af0b1767f226a068f4458116e40f: APPROVE for content.' Both include a sources verdict of pass and source_match of matches.
