The Pinned WSL kernels are current job added in #4 failed on its first real run (run 36615569381), exiting 1 with no output.

GitHub runs the step under bash -e -o pipefail. The while read loop that picked the newest tag in a pinned series returned 1 whenever the last upstream tag belonged to another series, so -e ended the script before it printed anything. It now uses awk, which always exits 0; an empty result is still reported as an error by the check that follows.

Verified locally under bash -e -o pipefail against the live upstream tags: current pins pass, and a stale 6.6 pin and a missing 6.18 series each fail with an ::error:: annotation.

The loop that picked the newest tag in a series returned 1 whenever the last
upstream tag belonged to another series, which bash -e treated as a failure
before anything was printed. awk always exits 0 here, and an empty result is
still reported as an error by the check that follows.
