Remove Toasts in Favor of Accessible Patterns #1303
Create a Figma prototype that proposes an alternative user interface to toast notifications in Compass, focusing on accessible patterns that improve usability and time management features.
Background
Compass currently relies on toast notifications for user feedback. Toasts are commonly used but can present accessibility problems, such as being missed by users or difficult to interact with for those relying on screen readers or keyboard navigation.
Audit current use of toast notifications across Compass.
Review accessibility best practices and issues related to toast notifications as described by Primer.
Develop Figma mockups for alternatives to toast feedback (e.g. inline status/message banners, modals, alert dialogs, etc.) suitable for Compass’s design system and user experience goals.
Ensure all proposed UI patterns conform to accessibility guidelines and offer clear feedback to users without using toasts.
Document the design rationale and guidance for engineering teams in the Figma file.
Acceptance Criteria
A complete Figma prototype, focused on refactored feedback methods that do not use toasts.
Prototype must clearly demonstrate how user feedback is presented for common app actions (create event, save task, error states, etc.).
Accessibility annotations and hints are included in design.
Link to Figma file is added to this issue upon completion.
No code changes or PRs expected as part of this issue.
