Build Instructions
Building from source code requires experience with installing and running windows tool chains. The windex library is a header only library, which means that it is not necessary to maintain a separate library build for each of your build environments - just include the *.h and *.cpp files in the projects that use windex.
Here are the high level steps:
-
Clone this github repository. Place clone in a folder, which for these instructions, I will assume is called
code/windex -
Download and install the v11.2 of the g++ 64 bit compiler from http://www.msys2.org/ Follow installation instructions on that page. Note that you will have to stop and restart the MSYS2 command line tool several times. To do this, close the window and then run C:\msys64\msys2_shell. When pacman ( packet manager ) reports "there is nothing to do" run it once more with the command
pacman -S mingw-w64-x86_64-toolchain -
Set your IDE to use the v11.2 g++ compiler installed in the previous step. ( I recommend using VSCODE - there are several VSCODE project files that you can use in the repository. In this case, you must add the compiler folder (
..\msys64\mingw64\bin) to your path ) -
Download the v1.84 boost libraries to folder
code_ext/boost/boost-1_84_0from https://www.boost.org/users/history/version_1_84_0.html ( No build is required, because this is also a header only library. ) -
Run the makefile. To build the basic demo application
code\windex\build\vscode>mingw32-make -f simple_demo_makefile.txt
