What

Fixes the failed Nightly Compatibility run (39223936514) and the review findings (CodeRabbit, CodeFactor) raised on the development → main promotion PR #1017.

Nightly Compatibility failure

The minimum-versions job installs every floor with --no-deps: torch==2.4.0 next to transformers==5.10.1. transformers 5.10.1 imports torch.float8_e8m0fnu when transformers.modeling_utils loads (finegrained_fp8.py:45), and that dtype first exists in torch 2.7.0, so import transformers raised AttributeError. transformers lists torch only as an extra, so pip never raised the old floor for real users either.

  • pyproject.toml: torch>=2.7.0,<3.0.0; the nightly pin, both installation pages and the forgelm doctor samples (10 files) follow.
  • Verified locally with overlay installs on Python 3.13: 2.6.0 fails the import, 2.7.0 passes with the other floors. The Python 3.10 leg is only exercised by the nightly itself.

Review findings (each verified against the code first)

Finding Verdict Change
publish.yml download-artifact not pinned to a SHA (lines 64, 127) valid both pinned to the v8.0.2 commit SHA with the tag in a comment
CHANGELOG RoPE entry claims 5.3–5.9 valid claim removed, verified versions kept
model.py RoPE on Gemma 3 (nested full_attention / sliding_attention) valid requested keys go into full_attention; per-layer-type entries without full_attention raise ConfigError (exit 1)
model.py sliding window must reach the text config valid applied to get_text_config(); sets use_sliding_window and re-derives layer_types for the Qwen2 family; warns when no layer is sliding; both overrides travel in one config= object
gdpr.md (EN+TR): --row-id needs ids valid assign a stable id before training; forgelm ingest writes none; line numbers are not accepted
supply-chain.md (EN+TR): download/upload paths valid --name download into cwd, diff via --dir previous
first-run.md (EN+TR): forgelm chat valid base model positional + --adapter .../final_model, plus the merged-checkpoint case
CodeFactor: FakeGh.__call__ complexity valid split into per-endpoint handlers; same 129 tests pass
CodeFactor: site/js/wizard.js items pre-existing this PR does not touch those lines; not changed here

Real transformers configs (Gemma 3, Qwen2, Qwen2-VL, Mistral) back the new tests in tests/test_model.py; Gemma 3 keeps its explicit layer pattern and Mistral only gets the window size.

Validation

Full CLAUDE.md gauntlet green locally (5830 passed, 98 skipped; bandit warnings only, unchanged).

Review follow-up (commit e22e1ba)

Comment Verdict Change
unsloth ignores rope_scaling / sliding_window_attention valid (it never applied them) _load_unsloth refuses a config that sets either (ConfigError, exit 1) before any load; configuration reference EN+TR says so
nested text config fallback leaves layer_types stale valid the in-place fallback copies every updated field, including the derived layer_types, from the rebuilt config
config and weights can diverge on a moving ref not changed both reads use the same revision=pin; pin is the resolved commit SHA whenever one can be confirmed, otherwise the module deliberately falls back to the operator's literal and records that no SHA was verified (same as the tokenizer and weights loads). Requiring a SHA would make provenance abort runs, which the module avoids by design
GDPR example keeps null / duplicate ids valid null or empty ids are replaced; a duplicate id stops the script (EN+TR)
sliding-window tests pass when the override is a no-op valid tests assert the window and layer_types; a same-weights comparison proves the window changes the logits; mutation-checked

Gauntlet green again (5835 passed, 98 skipped).

Summary by Sourcery

Correct model configuration overrides and dependency compatibility while addressing promotion review findings and documenting the resulting behavior.

Bug Fixes:

  • Raise the minimum PyTorch version to 2.7.0 so Transformers 5.10.1 imports and the nightly compatibility checks pass.
  • Apply RoPE scaling correctly to Gemma 3 and other nested text configurations, including safe handling of per-layer attention settings.
  • Make sliding-window attention overrides effective for text and multimodal configurations, including derived Qwen2 layer patterns.
  • Reject unsupported RoPE and sliding-window overrides for the Unsloth backend instead of silently ignoring them.

Enhancements:

  • Pin publish workflow artifact downloads to a specific action commit for improved supply-chain security.
  • Refactor the GitHub API test fake into endpoint-specific handlers to reduce complexity.

CI:

  • Update the nightly minimum-version compatibility job to test with PyTorch 2.7.0.

Documentation:

  • Update English and Turkish documentation for the new PyTorch requirement, model chat usage, GDPR row identifiers, SBOM downloads, and unsupported Unsloth configuration overrides.

Tests:

  • Add coverage for Gemma 3 RoPE handling, sliding-window behavior across model families and multimodal configs, and early rejection of unsupported Unsloth overrides.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • RoPE scaling and sliding-window attention settings now apply to supported text and multimodal model configurations, including per-layer attention settings.
    • Chat guidance explains how to launch with a base model, LoRA adapter, or merged checkpoint.
    • Supply-chain guidance shows how to download a specific SBOM artifact and compare releases.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Configurations combining the Unsloth backend with unsupported attention settings are now rejected with an error.
    • The minimum supported PyTorch version is now 2.7.0.
  • Documentation

    • Clarified how to assign and preserve unique row IDs for reliable data purges.

…doc corrections

Nightly Compatibility (run 39223936514): the minimum-versions job installed
torch 2.4.0 next to transformers 5.10.1, whose modeling_utils imports
torch.float8_e8m0fnu; that dtype first exists in torch 2.7.0, so
`import transformers` raised AttributeError. transformers lists torch only as
an extra, so pip never raised the floor. pyproject, the nightly pin, the
installation pages and the doctor samples now say torch>=2.7.0.

Review findings on the development -> main promotion PR:
- model.py: training.rope_scaling on a model with per-layer-type
  rope_parameters (Gemma 3) is applied to the full_attention entry; a model
  with such entries and no full_attention is refused (ConfigError, exit 1).
- model.py: training.sliding_window_attention is applied to the text config
  (Qwen2-VL keeps it there), sets use_sliding_window and re-derives
  layer_types for the Qwen2 family, warns when no layer ends up sliding, and
  travels in the same config object as rope_scaling.
- publish.yml: both download-artifact steps pinned to the v8.0.2 commit SHA.
- CHANGELOG: drop the unverified "5.3-5.9" claim from the RoPE entry.
- gdpr (EN+TR): explain assigning stable ids before training so that
  `forgelm purge --row-id` can address rows.
- supply-chain (EN+TR): download and diff paths match `gh run download`.
- first-run (EN+TR): `forgelm chat <base model> --adapter <final_model>`.
- tests: FakeGh in test_assign_on_comment split into per-endpoint handlers
  (CodeFactor "Complex Method"); real Gemma 3 / Qwen2 / Qwen2-VL / Mistral
  config tests for the two overrides.

</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**Unsloth ignores configured overrides**

When `model.backend` is `unsloth` and either `training.rope_scaling` or `training.sliding_window_attention` is set, `get_model_and_tokenizer` returns through `_load_unsloth` before calling `_build_model_kwargs`, and `_load_unsloth` does not apply either setting. Training with the Unsloth backend therefore uses the model's original RoPE and sliding-window settings despite the configured overrides.

Apply the overrides on the Unsloth loading path, or reject these settings there with a clear `ConfigError`.

+        setattr(text, key, value)
+    return model_config

</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**Sliding attention stays disabled**

When a nested model's `get_text_config()` returns a config with derived `layer_types`, but the outer config does not expose it through `sub_configs`, `setattr(text, key, value)` updates the original nested config, leaving `layer_types` stale or `None`; the requested sliding-window override therefore has no effect during training.

Apply the updates to the rebuilt nested config and retain or rederive its `layer_types` before returning it.

+            )
         if sliding_window:
</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**Config and weights can diverge**

When the model uses a moving Hub ref and revision resolution does not produce an immutable commit SHA, `_load_model_config` fetches the config before `from_pretrained` fetches the weights; if both use an unresolved or moving revision and the Hub ref advances between those reads, the model is built with config from one commit and weights from another. The run then fails to load or uses mismatched settings.

Require a resolved commit SHA for the separate config-and-weights loads, or otherwise ensure both reads use the same immutable snapshot.

+        dst.write(json.dumps(row, ensure_ascii=False) + "\n")
+```
</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**Existing IDs remain unusable**

When a source row already has a null `id`, or rows share an existing `id`, the example leaves existing `id` values unchanged, so null IDs remain unaddressable and duplicate IDs remain shared. `_find_matching_rows` matches every row with that value, causing the default purge to refuse ambiguity and `--row-matches=all` to erase every matching row instead of one.

Replace null or blank IDs and validate or repair duplicate IDs before training so each row has a stable, unique identifier.

<issue_to_address>
**Sliding-window no-op passes checks**

When `_with_sliding_window` returns the original config without applying the window, `test_qwen2_rebuilt_config_builds_a_model_that_runs` (lines 306–308) still passes with full attention because it checks only the logits shape; `test_rebuilding_for_the_window_keeps_the_rope_scaling_applied_before_it` (lines 310–314) still passes because the RoPE values were set before the call. Both tests stay green when the sliding-window override does nothing.

Assert the requested window and expected layer types in these tests.

Also at `tests/test_model.py:314`.

Sourcery assessment

Needs a human reviewer. 5 findings to address first, and if the RoPE or sliding-window config is applied incorrectly, a training run could produce a checkpoint using unintended positional scaling or attention layers; reverting the code would not fix checkpoints already saved, though the impact is bounded to affected runs and can be repaired by retraining. The torch-floor and documentation changes are reversible by reverting.

Blocking findings: forgelm/model.py:566, forgelm/model.py:520, forgelm/model.py:576, docs/usermanuals/en/compliance/gdpr.md:91, tests/test_model.py:308

Review follow-up on #1019 (each comment verified against the code):
- unsloth: _load_unsloth never builds a transformers config, so
  training.rope_scaling and training.sliding_window_attention were silently
  ignored; both are now refused with ConfigError (exit 1) before any load, and
  the configuration reference (EN+TR) says so.
- _with_sliding_window: the in-place fallback for a text config the outer
  config does not declare in sub_configs set layer_types to None instead of the
  derived list; it now copies every updated field from the rebuilt config.
- tests: the Qwen2 sliding-window tests assert the window and layer types, and
  a same-weights comparison shows the window changes what the model computes;
  new tests for the nested fallback and the unsloth refusal. Mutation-checked.
- gdpr (EN+TR): the id-assignment example replaces null/empty ids and stops on
  an id another row already uses (purge --row-matches one refuses ambiguity,
  all erases every match).
- Not changed: loading the config and the weights separately at the same
  `revision=pin`. The pin is the resolved commit SHA whenever one can be
  confirmed; otherwise the module deliberately falls back to the operator's
  literal and records that no SHA was verified, exactly as it does for the
  tokenizer and weights loads.

…check id and row_id collisions in the GDPR example

Second review follow-up on #1019:
- The unsloth refusal now also runs when the config loads (exit 1), so
  `--dry-run` fails instead of passing and failing only when training starts;
  the check lives in model.py and is shared with the _load_unsloth backstop
  (config.py has no line budget left, same reason as the other load-time
  checks in cli/_config_load.py). Tested through _load_config_or_exit and
  end to end with `python3 -m forgelm --dry-run` (exit 1).
- gdpr (EN+TR): the id-assignment script rejects a collision across the two
  fields `forgelm purge --row-id` matches, `id` and `row_id`; run against
  sample data (null/empty ids, duplicate id, id vs row_id).

🟡 Minor · Preserve custom layer_types patterns when rebuilding Qwen-family configs. · model.py:530-532

forgelm/model.py:530-532
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Preserve custom layer_types patterns when rebuilding Qwen-family configs.

_with_sliding_window enters this branch for Qwen2, Qwen2-VL, and Qwen3 configs. Transformers 5.10.1 preserves a supplied non-None layer_types list. The current reset therefore replaces a custom checkpoint pattern with the pattern derived from max_window_layers.

This affects custom patterns, not ordinary derived lists. Preserve layer_types when it differs from the pattern derived from the original fields. Clear it only when it matches that pattern.

Suggested fix
     updates: Dict[str, Any] = {"sliding_window": window, "use_sliding_window": True}
     if hasattr(text, "layer_types"):
- updates["layer_types"] = None # derived again from the three fields above
+        layer_types = getattr(text, "layer_types", None)
+        if layer_types is None:
+            updates["layer_types"] = None
+        else:
+            original = text.to_dict()
+            original["layer_types"] = None
+            derived = type(text).from_dict(original).layer_types
+            if list(layer_types) == list(derived):
+                updates["layer_types"] = None

This is a narrow custom-checkpoint correctness issue, so the impact is minor and the localized fix is low effort.

…GDPR id script write atomically

Third review follow-up on #1019:
- _with_sliding_window cleared layer_types unconditionally, discarding a
  per-layer pattern the checkpoint supplied. It now clears it only when it
  equals what the config would derive from its own fields, and keeps it when
  it differs. Test added and mutation-checked.
- gdpr (EN+TR): the id-assignment script opened the destination for writing
  before validating, so a failed run truncated an existing output. It now
  writes a temporary file, moves it into place only after every row passed,
  and removes it otherwise. Both mirrors run against sample data: failure
  leaves the previous output untouched and no temporary file behind.
