test(visual): stabilise remote talk captures

The dependency update changes emitted client script timing enough for the light-theme parity sweep to photograph the talk reel's transient video loader on the PR head but not its merge base. The 260x190 loader canvas produced the repeatable 49,400-pixel difference even though the reel scripts remained semantically equivalent.

Hide the remote player and its network-driven cue in deterministic screenshots so the harness compares the local talk still and surrounding layout. Document the stabilisation alongside the existing animation and canvas controls.

Verified with npm run lint, npm run format:check, npm run check:ratchet, and npm run build.

Dependabot fix report

Context

PR 163 is a grouped npm minor/patch update covering 11 packages. It changes package.json and package-lock.json, including production-path updates to Astro, @astrojs/markdown-remark, @astrojs/preact, and @astrojs/sitemap, plus lint and formatting tooling. This is an in-scope grouped batch, not a major migration or Dependabot configuration problem.

Symptoms and root cause

The required lint, typecheck, build, and motion checks were already green. The enforced light-theme visual job failed only for /talks-and-events/ at 1440x1000, reporting 49,400 differing pixels with a peak channel delta of 248/255. Dark parity and the 420x900 light capture were clean.

The changed region was exactly 260x190, matching the maximum VideoLoader canvas size. The screenshot harness blocks the remote YouTube iframe but still allowed the player overlay and its network-driven loading cue to mount while sweeping the page. Astro's updated output timing exposed that pre-existing transient state: one side captured the loader canvas while the other captured the local talk still. A failed-job rerun reproduced the exact route, pixel count, channel delta, and region.

Fix

Commit 2e00c4b makes deterministic screenshots hide the remote player and loading cue, leaving the local talk still and surrounding layout visible for comparison. The verification harness documentation now records this stabilization. No production page behavior, deploy configuration, URL, dependency version, or allowlist changed.

Verification

Local checks on Node 22.22.3 after npm ci:

  • npm run lint: passed
  • npm run format:check: passed
  • npm run check:ratchet: passed with zero Astro diagnostics; style and motion documentation gates passed
  • npm run build: passed

Phase E was required because the batch updates the production build pipeline. The managed local sandbox denied Chromium startup, so the repository's identical merge-base CI harness ran the browser sweep on pushed head 2e00c4b in run 40286929744:

  • Dark, 1440x1000: 40/40 routes pixel-identical
  • Dark, 420x900: 40/40 routes pixel-identical
  • Light, 1440x1000: 40/40 routes pixel-identical
  • Light, 420x900: 40/40 routes pixel-identical
  • Required lint, typecheck, build, and motion: passed

Parity decision: the sweep was mandatory and ran in both themes. All 160 route/viewport/theme comparisons measured zero differing pixels.

Recommendation

Ready to merge. The PR is intentionally left open for the orchestrator.
