Drafline

Free, open-source manuscript editor for novelists. Offline, no account, no cloud. Builds a deterministic model of your story from the manuscript itself.

DraftLine

The editor that edits your book, not the one that writes it.

DraftLine is a free, open-source manuscript editor for novelists. It runs entirely offline, needs no account, and builds a deterministic model of your story from the manuscript itself — no story bible to fill in, no roster to keep in sync.

What it does

  • Reads the book you wrote. Characters, aliases, relationships, plot threads, and continuity are derived from the prose. Import an EPUB of a finished novel and see what it finds.
  • Shows its work. Every answer cites the chapter, paragraph, and sentence it came from. Click through to the passage.
  • Flags, doesn't guess. Continuity slips surface as inspections.
  • Edits, doesn't write. AI is off by default and hidden until enabled. When on, it's a copy editor with your own provider — every change is an approve/deny diff. It never generates your story.
  • Works in a cabin. Grammar, style, entity-aware spellcheck, and cast-mode read-aloud all run locally. No network, no cloud, no telemetry.

Principles

  1. The manuscript is the source of truth.
  2. Deterministic, not generative.
  3. Offline first, forever.
  4. Beautiful and usable out of the box — writers shouldn't need to be developers.

Built with Go and React on Wails. Windows, macOS, Linux.
