Quick context menu to view and manage custom tags and sets (collections) on any movie, TV show or episode (including widgets)
If you were baffled by Kodi's file-tagging system, or if you've never cared for Kodi's Favourites system, or both, QuickTag may be for you.
QuickTag lets you easily manage your own personal custom tags directly from the context menu on any movie, TV show, or episode—even ones in widgets and Favorites. It—well, I guess 'hijacks' is the word—Kodi's standard tagging system and puts your own personal tags (starting with "0 ") at the top of the list for easy tagging the exact way you want them tagged. Kodi's system still works as designed—don't worry; your movies marked "shrunken human" or "unwillingly pregnant" or "lifting female in the air" are all still perfectly safe—but now you can add and delete your own tags as well without limitation.
Right-click on any file and click QuickTag to see and manage your custom tags for that file. If the file already has any of your custom tags assigned, they will also appear in the submenu, and clicking one will let you remove it instantly. If you click Manage (or if there are no tags assigned, you will open the tag chooser window). Already assigned tags are pre-checked. You can also create, rename, delete, or even merge tags by selecting the special button at the top.
Quicktag also lets you add or remove an item from a set (collection) instantly without having to find it in your movie collection to make changes. Wherever you see the item, you can edit it from there. You can add to a set, remove from a set, create a new set, merge sets, even open the set the movie is in from the movie itself.
You can also mark most items in your library as QT Favourites. 'Mark as favourite' on the QuickTag submenu allows you to create your own list of favourites in a new node rather than relying on Kodi's built-in Favourites system. These views look and act just like any other node in Kodi, like Movies or TV Shows, rather than being treated differently, like Kodi's Favourites page. You can replace Kodi's built-in Favourites system with this one if you like, or keep them both.
Note for those wanting to completely replace Kodi's Favourites: Kodi's built-in system cannot be completely disabled, so even if you turn off Kodi's Favourites section, Kodi's option to Add to favourites will still be present in submenus. Other than that, though, you can completely hide Kodi's system, and you will soon get used to adding to your new Favourites list by using the QuickTag menu instead.
Instructions for adding a new Favourites home menu item: When you install QuickTag, three nodes will be created: 'QT Favourites (Movies)', 'QT Favourites (TV Shows)' and 'QT Favourites (Episodes)'. Kodi's node/filter format only supports one media type per node, so a single combined Favourites list isn't possible—you'll add one home menu item per media type instead. (If you accidentally delete any of them, they will be re-created automatically; just click on any QuickTag menu item.) Go into settings, choose skin settings, and find the entry to edit the main menu. You are looking for the list of home menu items (MOVIES, TV SHOWS, FAVOURITES, etc.). Add a new item for each media type you want. You may rename each one to whatever you like. Then click 'Change action'. In the dialog, click Video Library, then Library Nodes, then choose the matching entry ('QT Favourites (Movies)', etc). This will take you back to the main menu customizer, and here you may reorder your new entries, and disable the default Kodi FAVOURITES if you like. Exit out, and once the skin reloads you should see your new Favourites pages on the home menu.
If you have TMM write your NFOs: Be warned, TMM will remove QuickTags when you rescrape your media. It only respects 'official', known tags that appear when you scrape your media files, so it doesn't know what to make of your custom tags, and if it doesn't recognize tags, it deletes them. But that's not so bad. If this happens, you can hit the 'Write tags to NFOs' button and rewrite your tags back to your NFO files. If they're already there, it won't hurt anything. Hopefully you don't rescrape in TMM constantly.
There's also a command, 'Write tags to Kodi', to rewrite tags into Kodi's database if a database ever gets corrupted or something bizarre happens. You'll probably never need it, but it's there.
- Download the ZIP from the Releases section of this repository.
- In Kodi, go to Add-ons.
- Click install from zip file.
- Select the downloaded ZIP.
- Enable the add-on.
