Linux Setup Replication

This repository captures the software and key user config from this machine, then provides a script to install the same stack on a fresh Linux system.

What is captured

• inventory/apt-manual-packages.txt: manually installed APT packages
• inventory/dpkg-all-packages.tsv: full installed Debian package list
• inventory/snap-packages.txt: Snap packages
• inventory/flatpak-apps.tsv: Flatpak apps
• inventory/vscode-extensions.txt: VS Code extensions
• inventory/npm-global.json: global npm packages
• inventory/dconf-settings.ini: desktop/app settings snapshot
• inventory/git-global-config.txt: global Git config
• inventory/bashrc.snapshot: shell config snapshot

Refresh inventory on the current machine

./scripts/export-system-inventory.sh

Reinstall on a fresh Linux system

1. Install base tools first (example for Ubuntu/Zorin):

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y git curl flatpak snapd nodejs npm

2. Clone this repo and run installer:

git clone <your-repo-url>
cd linux-set-up
chmod +x scripts/*.sh
./scripts/install-from-inventory.sh

3. Optional: restore desktop settings snapshot:

dconf load / < inventory/dconf-settings.ini

Notes

• apt-manual-packages.txt is authoritative for your installed tools; unavailable packages are skipped and reported.
• Snap core/base runtime packages are intentionally skipped during restore.
• You may want to review inventory/bashrc.snapshot before replacing your shell config manually.
