Can I update quote data for investment symbols that are longer than the Money maximum of 12 characters?
Money supports a maximum investment symbol length of 12 characters (excluding the Money country prefix) and if you enter anything longer in the Symbol field of Investment Details it will be truncated. However it is possible to update quote data for truncated symbols as follows:
- If the symbol in the Money file includes a Money country prefix then remove the prefix by following the steps here.
- Run msmquote using a user-generated Yahoo Finance API URL with the full un-truncated Yahoo Finance symbol.
msmquote will retrieve the quote data from Yahoo Finance, look up the truncated symbol in your Money file and then update the corresponding quote data.
The operational status of the Yahoo Finance quote data API can be found here.
