Add `os.source()` or similar functionality

Proposal:

It would be useful if the Python os module supported a function similar to the Unix source command, allowing a script to load environment variables or execute shell configuration from a file directly into the current process.

os.source(".file")

Has this already been discussed elsewhere?

source is a shell command meant to act on the shell environment, not the Python process itself. Its behavior is therefore not well-defined (and most os functions have a C corresponding function, but source doesn't as it's not part of the C standard).
