Inquiry about sample size effects in smc++ analysis #274

Description

@SunJJ230120

Dear smc++ Developers,
I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing to inquire about the potential impact of unequal sample sizes on smc++ analysis results. In my current study, I'm comparing two populations:
Population A: 16 individuals
Population B: 54 individuals
I'm concerned that this substantial difference in sample size (16 vs 54) might affect the comparability of demographic inferences
Could you please advise on:

  1. Whether such sample size differences significantly affect results comparability?
  2. Recommended strategies for handling unequal sample sizes (e.g., downsampling, specific parameter adjustments)?
  3. Any built-in functionalities in smc++ to account for sample size variations?
    I've reviewed the documentation but would greatly appreciate your expert insights on best practices for this scenario.
    Thank you for your time and for developing this excellent tool.
    Best regards,
    Sun
