Better docs and examples on testing agent extensions

I am developing an extension to instrument ThreadPoolTaskExecutor and I want to develop some tests with JUnit but I find the documentation lacking in this topic.

I would like better docs on testing extensions and/or some examples in this repository.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Honestly, I somehow vibe-coded my way through the unit tests, but the my agent is not capable of doing good quality integration tests and I cannot find anything in the docs that I could use.

hey @davidog23 just want to be sure that you have seen the example extension in this repo? There are integration test examples and the associated gradle config for wiring them up.

Since bytecode is being manipulated with bytebuddy for a lot of things in general instrumentation, granular unit tests are reserved for things like parsers and other utilities used in instrumentation, but not for the instrumentation itself.

I am in the process of rewriting the extensions documentation on opentelemetry.io, and if you provide some more specifics on the challenges you are encountering with testing yours, I can see if I can augment those docs with more information (or at the very least see if we can answer your questions)
