Feature requests & workflow pain points

Unlike Google NotebookLM and Open Notebook, KnowNote focuses wholeheartedly on "user-centricity": greater convenience, lighter weight, and deeper understanding of you. We want to hear your needs and suggestions.

This is a Discussion, not an issue. Ideas and workflow pain points are collected here; once something is approved as work it moves into its own issue with an owner, an acceptance list and a milestone. The current plan is the v1.4 epic — see #82.

What makes feedback easier to act on

• Describe the workflow, not the feature. "I have 30 PDFs and only want to ask about 3 of them" is more actionable than "add a source filter".
• Say what you do today instead. The workaround tells us where the friction actually is.
• One topic per discussion. Start a new one for a distinct idea instead of commenting on an unrelated thread — that way it can be turned into an issue without losing context.
• Bugs do not belong here. They need to be reproducible and tracked separately, so please open a bug report.

Feedback here is read, and not everything here will be built — but anything deliberately not built gets said out loud rather than left to rot. The "Explicit non-goals" section of #82 is where that happens, and the README's "What is not here yet" is kept honest for the same reason.

Hello, thank you so much for developing and maintaining KnowNote — this project has great potential!
I have a small suggestion: it would be wonderful if KnowNote could support a mind map feature in the future.
This would allow users to organize and visualize their notes more intuitively,
similar to how XMind or Obsidian’s mind map plugins automatically present note structures in a graphical way.

I believe this would make KnowNote even more convenient and user‑friendly,
and could also attract more people to use it.

Can you support all these features if the model supports it? e.g mindmaps, quizzes, etc, for video allow to use veo or other video generation models through APIs.

Thanks for the feedback! The good news is that Mindmaps have already been implemented, and Quizzes are currently in the works. Your suggestion regarding video generation APIs (like Veo) is very forward-looking—I’ll definitely consider adding support for it in future updates. Thanks for your interest!😇

Great job @mrsibe 🙂 Found you via X by the way. I'm getting an error while trying to install, my Mac is saying that the program is "damaged", could be a security restriction from my laptop though.

I've been looking for a "Cursor-like" agentic mode for documents, that works purely local. So that I could create a notebook, all the data in that notebook is indexed and that I can ask an agent afterwards to create a new document (summary or a document outlining the difference between two reports) based on the data in my notebook. Or that I am able to edit an existing document by using an AI agent, where I ask things like: "Can you add a 3-line summary about @Report1 in this document on the bottom."

There's lots of people who would really benefit from this, since I see a lot of people using Chatgpt or Claude as a text writer/editor, but it's not super suitable for it, since there's not enough context and editing capabilities are limited (merely new generation every time).

First, thank you for the feedback! To fix the "damaged" app error, please run this command in your Terminal: sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/KnowNote.app

Regarding your suggestions: That is a brilliant idea! The "Cursor-like" agentic experience for local documents is exactly the direction that would make KnowNote stand out from the crowd of generic AI tools. Implementing seamless local indexing and precise, context-aware editing would indeed make the app much more powerful.

I will seriously consider your advice and look into the roadmap for these features. Thank you so much for your insightful vision!

Consider deployment with the Phi-Silica Local LLM Microsoft has installed on all (except China) Copilot + PCs with NPU. Then whole experience would be local and utilise the local NPU and save the planet etc.
You can find Phi Silica sample code in AIDevGallery. I have used these code examples for Chat, Summarise and Translate successfully and locally.

Does it support synchronization features, and does it also support APIs for relay/intermediate servers?

The API's are incomplete at this time. I have stepped back from Microsoft Insider Dev. to Beta because Microsoft are still resolving stability problems with Phi Silica API's. Seems to work OK for their famous Recall features, but struggling with the wider uses.
I would suggest you just monitor Phi Silica progress at the moment.
