@rayvantil Thank you for writing this up, it will help other TrueNAS users a lot. One small thing: the name "app" does not matter. What matters is that One tip: the preview pictures on the start page are stored inside the container at If you'd like to support the project, a small donation is very welcome. 🙂 |

Love all work the Team has done and working on a project with it.
I won’t complain about Tinker but with the ability to Split and Fillet I can never go back. (except to access the hundreds designs I already have their😊)
The only thing Layerling leaves me wanting is server storage.
Luckly I already have a TrueNAS server running😊
The problem is I only use the Catalog Apps and don’t know anything about Dockers. I spent days trying mutable things and apps that should have worked. The worst was the “help” Google AI kept giving that was useless.
I did finally get it working and thought I would share for any other TrueNAS users out there
Create a new Dataset named “layerling”, it can be in a existing Pool or new Pool.
(I had a pool named Data_Pool that I added it to in my server)
Create SMB Share pointing to the “layerling” Dataset.
Edit the Permissions for “layerling” Dataset:
• Add your normal local user to access files
• Add user “netdata” (it is user 999 in TrueNAS)
• I am lazy and gave them both Full access but they both need more than default Read access
Then goto:
Apps --> Discover Apps --> Custom App
Application Name: layerling
Image
Repository: ghcr.io/henmedia/layerling
Tag: latest
Environment Variables
Name: LAYERLING_SHARED_PROJECTS_DIR
Value: /Data_Pool/layerling (Data_Pool = Your Pool Name)
Name: LAYERLING_NEW_DESIGNS_ON_SERVER
Value: always
Custom User
User ID: 999
Group ID: 999
Network Configuration
Port Bind Mode: Publish port on the host for external access
Host Port: 3000
Container Port: 3000
Protocol: TCP
Storage
Type: Host Path (Path that already exists on the system)
Mount Path: /Data_Pool/layerling
Host Path: /mnt/Data_Pool/layerling
(Data_Pool = Your Pool Name)
That gives me access from my 3 computers in the house, and I already use wireGuard to access the house remotely.
This also allows the Update button to work. (If there is ever any updates 😊)
I have not played with the AI but I assume adding 2 more Environment Variables will do the trick.
