0 is the default where MPL takes control away from you and orders according to when the artist was added or whatever!

Either way try upgrading to v0.14.4, the solution to the original problem shipped in there.

Okay. This is not a plotnine issue. It seems like when you pass a wrong parameter to adjust_text it messes up the ordering. In this case you have iter_limit instead of iter_lim!!!
