Hi
first of all, thank you for the OpenTrickler project — it’s an excellent open-source solution and very impressive from both a software and hardware standpoint.
I’d like to request support for A&D FX-123 scales, specifically the Japanese (domestic) version.
The issue is not hardware-related. The FX-123 (JP version) is fully equivalent to the FX-120i in terms of:
1.internal electronics and ADC
2.serial communication protocol and commands
3.resolution, stability, and performance
4.configuration and filtering behavior
The only difference is that the Japanese version is limited to grams only and does not support grains (gn) due to local legal regulations.
The international version does not have this limitation, but unfortunately I cannot return or exchange the scale.
From a data perspective, the scale outputs accurate weight values in grams, and everything else behaves identically to FX-120i.
Because of this, FX-123 should be fully usable if OpenTrickler supports:
accepting gram values directly, or performing a software-side conversion from grams → grains.
I checked the repository before opening this issue and didn’t find:
explicit support for gram-based operation, or
confirmation that gram-to-grain conversion already exists internally.
Questions:
Is gram-to-grain conversion already implemented somewhere in OpenTrickler?
If not, would you consider adding FX-123 support as an FX-120i-equivalent device with software conversion?
I’d be happy to help with testing, serial logs, or validation if needed.
It would be really great if support could be added, as this would help users who own Japanese-market A&D balances that are technically identical but unit-restricted.
Thank you for your time and for maintaining the project.
