[Feature Request] Changes on the main ui #1195

Description

@dgraf-gh

Thanks! I see how to use it now. One suggestion might be a method to also type in the date range, which can be faster for the user.

You are not the first one to mention it, but in my opinion it just does not fit. Thinking about it, I could imagine: when the datepicker has focus and you start typing, some overlay appears where you see what you typed, pressing enter selects the date or month/year you entered. Thinking again about the focus thing, maybe we just add this globally on the main page. There is no input needed on the main page besides when some dialog is opened. So we could catch the input, display an overlay with a hint what reitti actually understood of the input and pressing enter selects that.

It did remind me of something I forgot to mention: the current UI seems somewhat large and takes up a lot of screen real estate on smaller screens like my notebook computer, leaving less visible screen space for the map. I usually turn off Timeline Visible to get some space back on the left side of the screen, but here it is on as an example. The date selection bar and the slider control above could possibly be smaller to get more map display space.

Yes, I see the issue there. I think, moving the time control below the actions bar, so it becomes part of the datepicker could solve this. Maybe something like the scrub bar on youtube.
