[enhancement] Splitting stereo sound card is explicitely not supported

When selecting a stereo sound card in step 4 (“Custom Audio Sinks”) the “Remap Sinks” option refuses to split the card into two channels:

No multi-channel devices (4+ channels) detected. Remap sinks require devices with more than 2 channels.

However, I’d like to split the stereo card into 2 mono channels, with speakers connected to different rooms.

The seems like an arbitrary limitation to me, as I was able split the card into two channels using PulseAudio hacking (home-assistant/plugin-audio#197), then configuring 2 SqueezeLite containers (one per stream split).

This would be a much nicer solution if it worked though.

Agreed, this should absolutely be possible @ntninja good catch!

@ntninja please test latest dev image and see if that does what you want, it should mix any incoming stereo track to mono so both channels in the streamed audio play on your one speaker, if it works please close

I just tried sha-6543f98 and it still says there must be 4+ channels during setup:

Ok, this does work actually (including on stable 5.0.0+), but it doesn’t work on setup!

You need to instead:

1. Skip setup (leave unconfigured)
2. Open Settings → Custom Sinks
3. Create 2 Mono Remap Sink remapping to the left and right channel of the target device
4. Use Add Player in the main view twice to create a respective player instance for each created remap device
