Release roadmap for `3.1.6` and later versions

Hi there,

Airflow 2 reaches end of life in less than a month.

The only Airflow 3 version available on MWAA currently has multiple CVEs open.

When will up to date Airflow 3 versions (3.1.6 or later) be available on MWAA with current security patches?

I would also like to know since 3.0.6 has quite a few bugs it would be nice to get a 3.1.6 or 3.2 release on MWAA sooner than later.

We keep getting random task failures with MWAA 3.0.6 and AWS support says these are related to known issues in this airflow version. Would be nice if we can get release date for 3.1.6 or later.

Any update from AWS on this? We had multiple dag failures over the last week because of things that have been fixed in 3.1.6 and later.

While MWAA is unable to share timelines for future releases, you are welcome to monitor this repository to see work in progress, as the MWAA team first makes modifications here then makes that image available on MWAA.

I will make the clarification that, historically, no patches were made to any older Airflow versions, and only the latest Airflow minor release receives bug fixes. See https://airflow.apache.org/docs/apache-airflow/2.9.2/release-process.html# for more details.

I appreciate that every AWS employee says this same line.

Currently MWAA has customers that are wondering if we need to change platforms since the release schedule on other versions once was consistently in the ~4 weeks range (see official aws doc here).

Now it is in the >6 month range???
3.1.0 - 2025-09-25 - we are nearly 6 months behind this major version
3.1.6 - 2026-01-13 - this was released 3 months ago next week
3.2.0 - 2026-04-07 - I understand if this wont be out till may/june

The most recent 2.x version we can build is 2.11.0 was released in 2025-05-20 we don't actually have 2.11.2 which is the version listed as limited maintenance with an EOL in less than 3 weeks...

If AWS is discontinuing MWAA at least tell your users vs whatever this currently is.

@taabrcr AWS has stated in support tickets that they "provide an unaltered Airflow". I take that to mean that when 2.11.2 hits EOL in ~3 weeks we will not receive any security patches or backported CVE fixes by the AWS team. (if someone from AWS would chime in and correct my assumption that would be awesome)
