gray placeholder image appears on every video, in every tab and in search

this started happening just recently/the last few days or so, in 0.28.4 or whatever the previous version was I had installed (not sure, sorry); tried un- and re-installing 0.28.5 but that didn't help either.

(video still plays fine!)

yes it is, my bad.

btw: the proposed workaround mentioned there - changing "Settings->Content->Image Quality" - does not help
