This is exactly the issue I'm facing the last 3-4 days.

Videos have to be opened 3, 4 , 5 times before they actually play now.

I have the same issue, but as of today, videos simply do not play anymore at all.

Looks like some discrepancies caused by YouTube webpage updates that may have rendered newpipe extractor unusable. yt-dlp works fine though.

I created an account on here specifically to try and report this exact issue 😭 At first, it just took closing the player and then reopening it, and then it took a lot more clicking around and was happening more frequently, and now everything I click on says "content unavailable"

I would've gone back in to get a bug notif to pop up, but it wouldn't come back no matter how many times I did, so here I am :/

From what I remember, it was mostly caused by the app reloading, which would cause me to get kicked out of the vid I was watching, but I could just click on a different one and then click back. After that though, it started happening somewhat randomly? Ig just because it didn't stay like that long enough for me to really notice a pattern. I would just try to open a video and it would say the same message with a frowny face.

I don't know if I did this right or not, since I'm new here, as I said above, but I hope my scraps of info help! I really love the app and I'm super bummed it stopped working for me all of a sudden (well, sort of.. I guess I noticed it getting worse). Plan YT is way too overstimulating and awful lol

I can add screenshots if needed, but it's just the same screen every time and I can't access the error info the only way I knew how. That and I might forget I wrote this and forget to check back for a while :p

For those who commented, I recommend taking a look at #13082. There is also a pull request in the extractor repository that will fix this bug, so if it gets merged, they will definitely include it in NewPipe (in another pull request). Just be patient.

Edit: They have already added a debug apk to the issue I linked.
