audio playing but display is black

Affected version

0.28.0

Steps to reproduce the bug

1. play any video
2. audio is playing
3. display is black, pause button is usable
4. stop playing by minimizing and close the current playing
5. play the video by clicking on the title again
6. most(99%) of the time video will play normally with display and audio

Expected behavior

video play normally with audio and display.

Actual behavior

audio play normally but no display.

Not only it affect Newpipe 0.28.0, also 0.28.1 rc3, nightly 1092, refactor nightly 89.

I have had this issue long time ago, let me try to remember what you guys did to fix this.

How long ago exactly, Prior to using Android 16?

You might want to try use "disable media tunneling" option in the exoplayer settings (video & audio > exoplayer settings)

I also randomly get this in waydroid. Usually when I leave video playing in a window and then go to another tab in sway but can't reproduce intentionally. For me it happens once per week or something like that

For me it happens without switching videos, usually once per day.

@privacyonly Somehow while trying to replicate a different bug, I've been able to reproduce this. No idea how to do it constantly though.

Perhaps this will be easier to diagnose once proper debug logging is in the app.

I can't reproduce it reliably.

It happens randomly, but sometimes it is delayed, like delayed by a few seconds.

I am not 100% sure if it is the same bug.
