Feature description

Description:

Hi! I’ve noticed a small usability improvement idea while watching vertical videos on my phone — especially when charging.
When watching vertical videos, I often place my phone upright on a surface (bottom edge on the table) while charging.
However, since the charging port is at the bottom, the cable prevents the phone from standing properly → can't stand flat.

Here’s an example YouTube video showing this behavior:
(This is a portrait-oriented video — intended for vertical viewing.)

When I flip my phone upside down:

  • Sometimes the video switches to landscape mode — not ideal for vertical content.
  • Sometimes the video stays in portrait mode, but the entire screen (including the UI) appears upside down — making it unwatchable.

If NewPipe supported upside-down portrait orientation, I could simply flip my phone and continue watching comfortably while charging.

Some apps like Tor VPN Beta (Play Store link) allow this — the entire interface (including the system status bar: time, battery, and signal icons) rotates 180°, following the device orientation.

Benefits:

  • Better usability while charging
  • No negative effect for users who don’t use this orientation

Why do you want this feature?

Better watching experience for vertical videos while charging.
