Unable to navigate to videos on channel page when using list mode on FireTV 4k Max

Steps to reproduce the bug

1. Settings->Appearance->List mode view : List
2. Select any channel to get to their channel page
3. Press "Down" on the 4-way navigation button of the remote

Expected behavior

The highlighted area should progress down into the listed videos in or to select one for playing.

Actual behavior

The highlighted area will move down but will only toggle between "Background" and "Play All" and not allow any video to be selected.

If in Grid or Auto modes the navigation works fine so I have to go change my options in order to pick a video or generate a search that produces the video in the result list where it can then be selected.

This has been the case for a long time and I assumed it was a limitation of using the remote but recently I was using a new device that had not been configured to List mode and I realized the navigation works in Grid and Auto.

I did look for a similar report and did not find one but as this behavior has been around for a long time I might have missed an older report.

I don't believe NewPipe is targeted toward nor designed to have a remote control/TV friendly interface. I used NewPipe on the same Fire TV device as you for quite some time while dealing with the frustrating UI navigation via remote control.

Eventually I came across SmartTube which is designed specifically for Android TV devices and to be used with a remote control, and it has been working great with an active developer and regular updates.

You can opt for either the stable or beta release. I have been using the beta version from the beginning and have had no issues. There will be more frequent beta updates, but the app can update itself by checking at launch, notify you, and prompt to install them with a summary of the changelog included.

I believe there is an import option for certain NewPipe data that I saw in some of the advanced settings, but I am not certain for what data as I didn't use it. Possibly watch history or subscriptions. It also allows you to log in to your Google/YT account and implement casting from another device. Also allows multiple users with different app settings for each user if you want. I personally don't use that and use it signed out in case Google decides to crack down on unauthorized apps some day. But you could always use a throw-away account you aren't concerned about for that purpose.
