Feature description
Hi,
via NewPipe (0.27.7, on Motorola G54) search bar I wanted to open:
https://bit.ly/4kEXSuL
(forwards to
"Parker Lewis - Bitcoin, Texas & the Fight for Sovereignty | Ep. 80"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dEukJx8Ax0
).
This resulted in error
"Keine Ergebnisse" (German) -
English equivalent probably "No results".
Normal user expectation would probably be
for this to directly work (nice usability), sufficiently similar to
many non-YouTube video content websites also getting nicely parsed/extracted/handled "as expected".
Why do you want this feature?
Since processing of bit.ly links does not work directly in NewPipe, the next conceivable solution (well, workaround...) would be to use some browser in order to successfully achieve a translation to the required actual YouTube URL.
However, once visiting the bit.ly URL (e.g. in Fulguris Android browser), one gets an immediate redirect to the [newly opened] Android YouTube app (i.e. YouTube app activity), which one possibly would damn certainly want to avoid. ;-)
Also, when trying to open a URL mentioned in a note (in e.g. NoNonsense Notes), there does not appear to be a usability-based way to send that URL to another app (rather, again, merely clicking, and directly ending up in that YouTube app again).
((though sending a bit.ly URL to NewPipe currently likely would not work either - no support there))
Additional information
See also #6525 (y2u.be shortener support)
While this one here might be an extractor-only bug item (c.f. 6525's "requires extractor change" label), I guess overall this is activity which encompasses NewPipe, thus probably correct to get filed in this scope.
Finally, maybe consider adding support for other sufficiently well-known URL shortener services as well.
Thanks a ton for an extremely useful app!
