(nightly) Unable to use steering wheel controls to skip songs on android auto

Feature description

Now that nightly supports android auto, I noticed that using the previous/next buttons on my steering wheel doesn't skip or return to the last video on new pipe. When new pipe is connected via Bluetooth, the steering wheel buttons work as expected, and you can even hold down to skip ahead in the video.
Can we add this feature to Android auto new pipe as well? Thanks!

Its safer and easier to use than to touch my phone screen

Unfortunately I can't reproduce on the desktop-head-unit using these commands to simulate button presses, they work without issue for me: https://developer.android.com/training/cars/testing/dhu#test-keycodes

Somebody with a real car will have to check why it's not working and implement a fix. Maybe @haggaie can reproduce? :-)

Edit: @iveykun do you know if those buttons work with other media apps you use through Android Auto?

My car's steering wheel doesn't have prev/next buttons, but it does have a scroll-wheel that I believe should have this functionality. I'll test and see if I can reproduce the issue.

Edit: I've tested the steering wheel's scroll wheel on my car and it is able to skip songs as you would expect, both in NewPipe (nightly 0.27.7-1045-202507150127) and in another app.

Thank you for testing! Then what OP is facing is probably a limitation/misconfiguration of the car software... Closing for now, feel free to reopen if it turns out there are some Android system events we don't (properly) react to.

Ok I tried again in a different car and it worked. Looks like it simply doesn't work on a Nissan Ariya.
