Only audio-only background play? how to enable popout video play?

Hello, I stopped using youtube and youtube premium recently, and I'm switching to newpipe or trying, one thing I couldn't get sorted, even looking at the settings is that there is no pop-up background player for when you leave the app, is this not a feature or did I miss the settings for it, if so what the settings?

Hey, Welcome to NewPipe!
For your question, I guess Newpipe has two options, background play and popup. Both have different purpose. Bg lets you play audio in background, whether your screen is off or not and if you are on other app. Popup lets you use mini screen that acts like bg but also shows videos. I hope that helps. Turn on "display over other apps" in settings, depends on your OS.

Go to Settings -> Video and audio -> Minimize on app switch -> Choose Minimize to Popup player option. Also you need to give "display over other apps" permission if not given earlier, app would ask for it when you use popup player for the first time, Happy Viewing :)
