Editor highlight goes away every time users press some key

Describe the bug
To avoid the highlight sticking, the current implementation is to remove the highlight whenever the user types something. However, that doesn't meet the expectation.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to '...'
2. Click on '....'
3. Scroll down to '....'
4. See error
