Translation file gets smaller with each update

The translation file decreases with each update, each time the data in the file has a different order and it is difficult to compare the differences every time, however, I observe that this file was not translated by me, which was done in one of the pull requests. If you wanted your module to be still unreadable in Russian, congratulations, you have achieved this. There are also many languages that AI translate cannot handle yet fully, and a native speaker sees a cacophony of meaningless letters at the exit. In this case, I do not plan to engage in monkey labor and translate again every time, I will just use the correct translation only for myself.

Thank you for the honest feedback. It was not my intention to annoy you. Maybe, let me describe some of the background and lets discuss how we can improve.

For the translation file, I use Poedit, which is a free software. It works pretty well for the translating user. However, I have no control about the output. I am also not happy about the sorting and changes in the text file output. It is also not very suitable for diff and merge processes with Git.

Another background is that I handle the translation files at Poeditor.com. This is also a nice tool. However, it has changed the conditions for the free account and does not allow to contact the translators. Also, they limited the number of contribution translators to 5. Therefore, no additional contributors can join.

I am facing very different translators. Some of them only send a translation once and never get in contact any more. Other are very active to contribute further translations.

For the above reasons and - especially - because I cannot reasonable contact the translators, I tested automatic translation, because I added a few translations and was wondering how to continue. On first sight, automatic translation (which is also very limited in Poeditor) worked pretty well. Now, I learned from your feedback that it is not good for some languages.

How can we improve?

• I can reset the Russian translation to the file you contributed to redo the automatic translation.
• I can stop further automatic translation for Russian in the future.
• I plan to move from Poeditor to weblate to improve the limit of contributors.

Now, I reverted the automatic translation to the po file you created. Afterwards, I updated the po file to the latest code, which contains about 10 additional translation strings. This update sorted the text in the po file in a different way. However, like explained above, this is a result of Poeditor, which I cannot control.

I plan to release a new version of Custom Module Manager in the next days.

Well, for example, it was not for nothing that I attached an English file in the first poll request - it was a reference for me, with its help it is easy to understand which phrases are not translated. This is one of the standard translation methods precisely if a local Poedit is used. You don't have to do this for automatic translation, but automatic translation doesn't really work here.
I have not yet found any other translation methods that do not involve monkey labor. Are you try Crowdin + Poedit?

Yes, I understand; and it matches with my intentions. The attached ru.zip file above contains the English and Russian text strings and can be directly edited with a local Poedit. Indeed, I do my own translations with local Poedit as well. Poedit nicely shows, which phrases are translated or not. However, Poedit is less consistent about the order of the text in the po file itself, which is not optimal for Git etc.

If you can use Weblate on your own hosting, perhaps this is the best solution. Crowdin limits the free features to 60 thousand words, which is not so small, and it does not require your hosting.
