Both were checked on 22 Oct 2026. Duet facts come from Anthropic's [announcement](https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-duet) and [product page](https://claude.com/product/claude-duet). ## What is the main difference?
-One agent versus a team. Duet is a single agent: you talk to it "in one ongoing thread", by typing or voice, and it carries over your memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account. Munder Difflin runs several named agents, each a real terminal session of a coding CLI such as Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode or Qwen Code. They pass messages through a shared hive, which the README describes as "a local git repo of plain files", and an orchestrator called Michael routes the work.

Every morning at 08:00 an agent checks your repository and writes you a short brief: pull requests waiting for review, checks failing on main, and new issues. When you want something fixed, you say so in Slack and the work starts. Duet does the same for email and invoices: per Anthropic, “each morning, it sends you a short brief on the most important items across your connected apps.”

Tune it with the message, not code. Ask for “only items older than one day”, or “skip draft pull requests”, and the next run follows. Keep it short: Duet checks “every few hours, because checking nonstop would use up your plan’s limits much faster”, and the same holds for your coding plan. One run a day is cheap; a run every ten minutes is not.
Want more than one repository? Add one brief agent per repository, each pointed at its own folder, and give each its own schedule a few minutes apart. Each agent keeps its own memory file, so you can tell it once which items to skip.
Connect Slack once, then reply in a thread. Create the Slack app from the manifest the app gives you: under Integrations in Pro, or Settings, then Connections in Classic, press Copy manifest. Our Slack guide has every step. Pick Michael, the orchestrator, under Who answers inbound messages.

Connect Slack once, then reply in a thread. Create the Slack app from the manifest the app gives you: press Copy manifest under How to get these. Our Slack guide has every step. Pick Michael, the orchestrator, as the agent that answers.
Now write “Fix the failing check on main” in a channel the bot is in. The project’s README says Michael “can spawn an ephemeral worker, reply in-thread, and tear it down.”
A reply in Slack becomes a short lived worker and an answer in the same thread.
Spend, scope changes and destructive steps still come back to you for approval, and a circuit breaker stops an agent that loops.
What is still missing compared with Claude Duet? #

Judgment and the cloud. Duet decides what is urgent on its own and runs in a virtual machine with your laptop off. Claude API Version 2026-10-21: What Breaks and How to Upgrade
Claude API version 2026-10-21 is the first new Claude API version since 2023-06-01. Anthropic released it on 21 Oct 2026 with new major versions of every SDK. It removes temperature, top_p and top_k, rejects two odd message shapes, renames fields in the Admin API, and the new SDKs send your key in a different header.

Three Messages API requests that used to work now return a 400 error, and each SDK has a new major version that sends anthropic-version: 2026-10-21 by default. An SDK keeps the API version that was current when its major version came out, so code on an older SDK keeps sending 2023-06-01 until you upgrade.

This decides whether a closed laptop stops the work and who holds your files. Duet works in its own virtual machine, so your laptop can be off. One pick on this list works the same way; three run on hardware you control.
Where each agent runs, from vendor pages opened on 22 Oct 2026.
1. Claude Cowork.Cowork is Anthropic’s agent for longer work: you describe an outcome, step away and come back to finished documents, files or research. Its help page says it is on paid plans (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise), runs sessions remotely in the cloud, and that “scheduled tasks run in the cloud, with no device online.” The difference from Duet: you start the work. Best for: Duet’s cloud model without the waitlist.
-
2. Munder Difflin.Munder Difflin is what we make. Its README says it works “with the subscriptions you already pay for, on their hourly limits.” Agents act without a prompt through schedules, a Slack channel can feed work to Michael, the lead agent, and spend, scope changes and destructive steps come back to you for approval. The catch: agents run while your computer runs. Best for: a proactive team for your codebase. Claude Duet vs Munder Difflin compares the two in full.

Best for: a proactive team for research, writing, analysis, ops and code. Claude Duet vs Munder Difflin compares the two in full.
3. OpenClaw.OpenClaw is an open source (MIT) assistant that “runs on your own computer and meets you in the channels you already use”: WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, iMessage and more than 20 others. Best for: a personal assistant in your chat apps.
4. Hermes Agent.Hermes Agent from Nous Research is open source (MIT) with a learning loop: it creates skills from experience and builds a model of you across sessions. Its own cron scheduler runs “daily reports, nightly backups, weekly audits” unattended, and it answers on Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal or email. Best for: memory that grows, on a small server you control.
Start from the work, not the feature list. If the work must go on with your laptop shut, pick Claude Cowork. If your day is a codebase, pick Munder Difflin. If you want an assistant inside WhatsApp or Telegram, pick OpenClaw, and if you want memory that learns, pick Hermes Agent.

Is Claude Duet Good for Developers? What It Does With Code and What It Doesn
Claude Duet is not built for developers first. Anthropic made it for professionals and small business owners, and its examples are business apps. It can prototype and build web apps, but for work inside your repository, Claude Code is the better tool.

Some prototyping, on Anthropic’s word. The announcement says you can hand it tasks “from simple administrative tasks of scheduling meetings to more complex ones, such as building dashboards with dozens of tools, creating financial or sales forecasts, prototyping, and building web apps.” Anthropic also says the team behind Duet uses it to build the product, including prototypes, and to “even ship code.”
Everything else in its pitch is business work: missed Gmail and Slack messages, unpaid invoices in QuickBooks or Stripe, payroll in Gusto, agreements in Docusign, follow ups from HubSpot, and Shopify stores. Claude Code’s page opens on a different job: “Hand Claude a bug fix, test, or multi-day migration.”
As the morning assistant, not the engineer. Let Duet handle your inbox, calendar and invoices if you run a small business, keep Claude Code for the work at your keyboard, and put recurring code chores on a schedule that runs on your own machine.
One way to split a day between the three. The times are examples.

Claude Duet vs Munder Difflin: One Agent in the Cloud or a Team on Your Comp
-
Claude Duet is one proactive agent that works in Anthropic’s cloud on your business apps. Pick Duet for your inbox and invoices, Munder Difflin for your repositories.

Pick Duet for one assistant, Munder Difflin for a team.
Both were checked on 22 Oct 2026. Duet facts come from Anthropic’s announcement and product page. Munder Difflin facts come from its public README. Munder Difflin is what we make, and we say where Duet is the better pick.
One agent versus a team. Duet is a single agent: you talk to it “in one ongoing thread”, by typing or voice, and it carries over your memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account. Munder Difflin runs several named agents, each a real terminal session of a coding CLI such as Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode or Qwen Code. They pass messages through a shared hive, which the README describes as “a local git repo of plain files”, and an orchestrator called Michael routes the work.

One thread versus a team that shares a hive. Based on Anthropic's Duet pages and the Munder Difflin README, 22 Oct 2026.
-
Where they run differs too. Duet “has a virtual machine with its own browser”, so it keeps working with your laptop and phone off. Munder Difflin runs on macOS, Windows or Linux, and its agents work while that computer is awake.
+
Where they run differs too. Duet “has a virtual machine with its own browser”, so it keeps working with your laptop and phone off. Munder Difflin runs on macOS, Windows or Linux, and today its agents work while that computer is awake. Its Cloud Office, coming soon, moves them to the cloud so work goes on with the computer off.
Both stop before risky steps, and they draw the line in different places. Duet reads, drafts and prepares on its own, but before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, “it shows you exactly what it’s about to do and waits for your approval.” Trading securities and moving money between accounts are off limits even with approval.
In Munder Difflin, the orchestrator settles routine requests itself and sends spend, destructive operations and scope changes “into an approvals queue you act on.” You set how far each agent may go on its own, and a circuit breaker “steers, constrains, then stops anything that loops or runs away.”
What each tool does alone and what waits for you, from the vendors' own pages.
-
Duet’s safety work is deeper on sensitive data: Anthropic built a classifier and safety prompt designed to reject requests to share “the strictest tier of information, including credit card numbers and government identification.” Munder Difflin’s guard rails are about runaway agents and spend, which is where coding agents tend to go wrong.

Both run on subscriptions you already pay for. During the preview, Duet is included in Pro and Max and “shares your plan’s usage limits with the rest of Claude”; its background checks count toward those limits, and larger tasks need more model turns. Munder Difflin works “with the subscriptions you already pay for, on their hourly limits”, across whichever CLIs you install, and adds per agent token budgets, bring your own keys, and local models through Ollama, LM Studio or vLLM.
One shared plan versus per agent budgets. The bars show the idea, not real numbers.

Be honest about the catch on our side. Munder Difflin needs a computer that stays awake, the coding CLIs installed and signed in, and a little setup per agent. Duet needs none of that: Anthropic says setup “requires minimal work” because your memory, skills and connected apps carry over from your Claude account.
-
Duet is the better pick if your day is email, invoices, payroll and contracts, and you are in the US on Pro or Max. Munder Difflin is the better pick if your day is pull requests and failing checks, if you are outside the US, or if you want several engines at once. Build your own Claude Duet shows a morning brief agent for your codebase, step by step, and Claude Duet alternatives lists more options. New to Munder Difflin? Start with your first hour.

FAQ
-
Can Munder Difflin read my Gmail or QuickBooks like Claude Duet?
-
That is not what it is built for. Duet's examples are business apps through the Claude Marketplace. Munder Difflin runs terminal coding agents in your projects, so its natural work is pull requests, checks, issues and code. Treat them as tools for different jobs.
+
Can Munder Difflin work with my business apps like Claude Duet?
+
Yes, through what you connect. Its agents do research, writing, email drafts, analysis, ops and code, and reach other apps through MCP servers, skills and plugins you add, plus Slack and webhooks. Duet comes with more than 6,000 connectors in the Claude Marketplace, ready from your Claude account.
Does Munder Difflin work while my computer is off?
-
No. Its agents run on your computer, so the computer has to be awake. The app has a setting that keeps it awake while agents are live. Claude Duet runs in Anthropic's virtual machine, so your laptop and phone can be off.
+
Today its agents run on your computer, and the app has a setting that keeps it awake while agents are live. The Munder Difflin Cloud Office, coming soon, runs agents in the cloud so work goes on with your computer off, and a dedicated mobile app is also coming soon. Claude Duet already runs in Anthropic's virtual machine.
Can I use both?
-
Yes. They do not overlap much. Duet can brief you on your inbox and invoices in the morning, while Munder Difflin runs coding agents on your repositories on a schedule. Both can use the same Claude subscription, so watch your usage page.
+
Yes. They do not overlap much. Duet can brief you on your inbox and invoices in the morning, while a Munder Difflin team runs your research, reports, ops and code on a schedule. Both can use the same Claude subscription, so watch your usage page.
Three small things. First, connect the apps you want Duet to watch in your Claude account, since it carries them over. Second, decide what you want to hear about: Anthropic says “you can also tell it what you want to hear about and how often.” Third, look at your usage page now, so you can see what Duet’s checks add once it starts.
Three things work today. Claude Cowork is in paid Claude plans now, and its help page says scheduled tasks “run in the cloud, with no device online.” Munder Difflin is free and open source: a desktop app that runs a team of coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI on your own computer, with schedules and Slack. Claude Code covers work inside your repository.

Codex vs Gemini CLI: Which Terminal Agent Still Fits in Oct 2026?
Codex vs Gemini CLI in Oct 2026: pick Codex unless you already pay Google for a Gemini API key, Vertex AI or a Code Assist licence. Gemini CLI stopped serving free, Google AI Pro and Ultra users on 18 Jun 2026, when Google moved them to Antigravity CLI. Both CLIs are Apache 2.0. Checked 19 Oct 2026.

Codex CLI is, in OpenAI’s README, “a coding agent from OpenAI that runs locally on your computer”. The same agent also comes as an IDE extension, a desktop app (codex app) and Codex Web. The README recommends you sign in with ChatGPT “to use Codex as part of your Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, or Enterprise plan”. Apache 2.0, 129,915 stars and release rust-v0.163.0 (15 Oct 2026) on 19 Oct 2026. See what is Codex.
Gemini CLI is, in Google’s README, “an open-source AI agent that brings the power of Gemini directly into your terminal”. The same README now opens with two notes: unpaid tier and Google One users were moved to Antigravity CLI on 18 Jun 2026, and Gemini CLI “has not been optimized for Gemini 4 Argon”. Apache 2.0, 107,454 stars and stable release v0.64.0 (13 Oct 2026) on 19 Oct 2026.

Cursor calls itself “your coding agent for building ambitious software”. It ships a desktop editor, a CLI you install with one command, cloud agents, code review through Bugbot and code hosting through Origin. Cursor’s blog says “Cursor has officially been acquired by SpaceX” (14 Aug 2026), and since 12 Oct 2026, per Cursor’s forum post, its plans are sold as part of The X Subscription, which its docs call “one subscription for Grok, Cursor, and X”. Cursor’s public GitHub repository lists no licence.
Cline calls itself “The open source coding agent in your IDE, terminal, & desktop.” It runs as a VS Code extension, a JetBrains plugin, a CLI with a headless mode, a desktop app and an SDK. Apache 2.0, 70,550 stars and extension v4.1.25 (16 Oct 2026) on 19 Oct 2026. Our Kilo Code vs Cline page compares it with another open source coding agent.

Hermes Agent Alternatives: 7 Picks for Chat, Code and Cloud
-
The best Hermes Agent alternative is OpenClaw if you want the same job done, a personal assistant in your chat apps, and Munder Difflin if your real work is code. NanoClaw, ZeroClaw, nanobot, Goose and Claude cover containers, one Rust binary, a Python core, a desktop app and a hosted option. Checked 19 Oct 2026.

NanoClaw, ZeroClaw, nanobot, Goose and Claude cover containers, one Rust binary, a Python core, a desktop app and a hosted option. Checked 19 Oct 2026.
Seven alternatives. Six are free and open source, one is hosted.
What is Hermes Agent, and why would you look elsewhere? #
Hermes Agent is Nous Research’s MIT licensed personal agent. Its README says it creates skills from experience and improves them during use; it also keeps memory between sessions, runs a cron scheduler, and answers on “Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, and CLI” from one gateway process. GitHub showed 254,983 stars and release v0.22.2 (15 Oct 2026) on 19 Oct 2026. Our Hermes Agent explainer covers the install.
It costs nothing, so price is rarely the reason to switch. The reasons are about the job:
-
It is one personal agent, not a team. If your work is a codebase, you may want several coding agents working side by side.
+
It is one personal agent, not a team. If one agent is not enough, you may want a team of agents working side by side.
You run it. It installs on your computer or a server, with seven terminal backends from local and Docker to Modal and Daytona.
You may want harder walls. Some picks below run each agent in its own container or ask before medium risk actions by default.
1. OpenClaw.OpenClaw is the closest swap and the biggest project here: 392,413 stars on 19 Oct 2026, MIT licensed. Its README names Discord, iMessage, Slack, Teams, Telegram and WhatsApp “and 20+ more”, with native apps for macOS, iOS, Android, Windows and Linux. Release v2026.10.5 (18 Oct) resumes interrupted turns “after a Gateway restart”. The README also warns that “Tools run on the host for the main session unless you configure sandboxing”. Best for: the same job, with more channels.
-
2. Munder Difflin. This is what we make, and it is free and open source: a desktop app that runs a team of coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI on your own computer. The limits: it is for coding work, it does not answer your Telegram or run errands, and agents work while your computer is on. The install guide takes you from download to a first agent. Best for: people who used Hermes Agent mostly to get code written.

2. Munder Difflin. This is what we make, and it is free and open source: a desktop app that runs a team of AI agents for all kinds of knowledge work, coding included, on your own computer. The limits: it does not answer you in Telegram today, and agents work while your computer is on; the Cloud Office, coming soon, keeps them working with it off. The install guide takes you from download to a first agent. Best for: a team of agents with different roles, for research, writing, ops or code.
3. NanoClaw.NanoClaw (MIT) says agents “run in their own Linux containers with filesystem isolation, not merely behind permission checks”. Its setup script installs Node, pnpm and Docker if they are missing and registers your Anthropic credential with a credential gateway. Chat channels such as Discord, Slack, Telegram and WhatsApp live on a separate branch. Our NanoClaw explainer covers setup. Best for: isolation first.
4. ZeroClaw.ZeroClaw is “a single Rust binary you configure and run”, dual licensed MIT or Apache 2.0 according to its README badge. It reaches “30+ channels”, and its default autonomy is supervised, where medium risk operations need your approval and high risk ones are blocked. It also drives hardware such as a Raspberry Pi. Release v0.8.6 came out on 18 Oct. Our ZeroClaw explainer has the details. Best for: an always on service in one binary.
5. nanobot.nanobot (MIT) is a personal agent framework for Python 3.11 or newer. It runs in a browser WebUI or a terminal and connects to Telegram, Discord, Slack, WeChat, Email and other channels. Best for: Python people who want to read the core.
OpenClaw, if you want the same job: a personal assistant in your chat apps that you host yourself. It is MIT licensed, has the most stars of any agent here, and shipped v2026.10.5 on 18 Oct 2026. If your real work is code, Munder Difflin fits better.

Kilo Code vs Cline: Two Open Source Coding Agents Compared
Kilo Code and Cline are free, open source coding agents that live in your editor and terminal. Pick Kilo Code for 500+ models through one account and $15 team seats (19 Oct 2026). Pick Cline for the Apache 2.0 licence, a desktop app and an SDK, with model use at cost or on your own key. Checked 19 Oct 2026.
Where each one runs, from each README on 19 Oct 2026.

Kilo Code calls itself “an AI coding agent that meets you everywhere you work”: VS Code, JetBrains and the CLI. Its README says you pick from 500+ models and can switch models in the middle of a task. It ships agents named Code, Plan, Ask and Debug, and you can build your own. The Kilo Marketplace adds agents, skills, MCP servers and plugins. The README also says “Kilo CLI is a fork of OpenCode”. MIT licensed, 27,654 stars and VS Code release v7.8.12 (15 Oct) on 19 Oct 2026.
Cline calls itself “The open source coding agent in your IDE, terminal, & desktop.” It runs as a CLI that also works headless for CI and scripts, a desktop app for macOS and Windows, a VS Code extension, a JetBrains plugin and an SDK for building your own agents. By default it asks for your approval before it acts. Apache 2.0, 70,527 stars on 19 Oct 2026. Our Cline vs Munder Difflin page has more on Cline’s own releases.

LiteLLM 1.107.0 Compromise: What It Steals and How to Check Your Machine
If you installed litellm 1.107.0 from PyPI or pulled a floating LiteLLM Docker tag on 21 Oct 2026, treat that machine as compromised: clean it from the shell and rotate every secret it could reach. Updated on 22 Oct 2026 at about 04:00 UTC with BerriAI’s incident report; the investigation continues.

A poisoned build of LiteLLM sat on PyPI for under two hours. SafeDep’s analysis of 21 Oct says the 1.107.0 wheels add three files to site-packages, and two of them “run when any Python process starts on the host, even one that never imports litellm.” A public report on BerriAI’s GitHub set out the same findings at 12:06 UTC.

What Is Claude Duet? Anthropic's Proactive Agent App, Explained
Claude Duet is a new Anthropic app in which Claude works as a proactive agent: it briefs you each morning, works on tasks in the background and asks before it acts for you. Anthropic opened it as a research preview on 21 Oct 2026, by waitlist, starting with Pro and Max subscribers in the US.

Claude Duet is Anthropic’s new app in which Claude acts as a proactive agent. Anthropic’s announcement says it brings you what needs your attention, does tasks you ask for, keeps working while you are away and checks with you before acting on your behalf. Anthropic says it built Duet “for professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track.”
Anthropic lists them itself. This is an early version, and “it still might misread a thread or miscalibrate what’s urgent.” Its core is built around work, so personal errands such as booking tickets “aren’t quite as strong,” and it cannot yet show you its browser. The product page adds that it “can miss something that arrives between checking in with you.” It lives in its own app, separate from the main Claude app, and Anthropic says early users will shape how the two work together. Signing in to sites with logins saved in 1Password is announced but not yet available.
What Is NanoClaw? The Small OpenClaw Alternative That Runs Agents in Contain
NanoClaw is a free, MIT licensed personal AI assistant that runs its agents inside Docker containers and answers you in chat apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack and Discord. Pick it over OpenClaw if you want a much smaller codebase; NanoClaw’s website says it takes “An afternoon” to understand. Checked 17 Oct 2026.

Our OpenClaw alternatives page compares both with five other tools, and our install guide covers setup.
NanoClaw is a personal AI assistant that you run yourself and talk to through chat apps. The GitHub repo calls it “A lightweight alternative to OpenClaw that runs in containers for security.” The README sums it up as “An AI assistant that runs agents securely in their own containers.” You give it jobs in a chat app, it runs them in a sandbox, and it can repeat them on a schedule.
The project now ships dated releases. The notes for 2026.10.0 say it “is the first release with calendar version numbers”, and the first one that /update-nanoclaw installs by default, so updates follow published releases instead of the newest code.
Cline. Its README says “The open source coding agent in your IDE, terminal, & desktop.” Apache 2.0; latest extension release v4.1.25 (16 Oct 2026). See Cline vs Munder Difflin.

What Is ZeroClaw? The Single Binary Agent Runtime in Rust, Explained
ZeroClaw is a free, open source agent runtime: one Rust binary that connects a model to your chat apps, tools and even hardware, with approval gates switched on by default. Pick it if you want a small, always on assistant that you set up in one config file. Checked 17 Oct 2026.
