Make it possible to switch database servers

Most of the code seems to rely on MSSQL instead of relying on database objects, this makes it difficult to switch to MariaDB or PostgreSQL.

This should be be refactored to make it possible to do so. From glancing at the code EntityFramework is already present which makes the job easier

Entity framework's performance is... poor... to put it lightly. The only reason it is included is due to Identity basically requiring it and those calls being relatively infrequent.

If you are wanting it to support another database, the best option would be to implement the DAL objects and build out the necessary setup to toggle which set is injected.

I mean, every ORM has a performance hit. But in most applications it is negligible, or did you notice something that makes it unusable for SnooNotes?

There was enough of an impact that you could feel the stutter between when you submit a note and when it would get broadcast and show up to everyone pretty noticeably. It could be re-engineered around, but honestly it just wasn't worth it, and I have a deep seated hatred of most ORMs due to being burned multiple times by them.

That said, I don't believe it relies on any of the "fancy" features of MSSQL and should run fine under a free express instance.
