closure plan: ruling 3 was already ruled — the four DTOs are the ALU's bus; retract the DTO-crate option and the r2il probe
After reading .claude/v3 in full (README, VISION, primer, INTEGRATION-PLAN, ENTROPY-MILESTONES): StreamDto / PerturbationDto / BusDto / ThoughtStruct are the bus of the ALU chain ladybug-rs -> thinking-engine -> P64 -> cognitive-shader-driver -> SoA (primer section 3, VISION section 6, E-DTO-LADDER-OWNERSHIP-SPLIT, W4 / D-V3-W4a). The contract already carries their zero-dep shader-side twins (cognitive_shader::{ShaderDispatch, ShaderResonance, ShaderBus, ShaderCrystal}); engine_bridge.rs maps the two ladders rung by rung. cognitive-shader-driver is the ALU; stockfish-rs is the reference design for the 64x64 field; masking + SIMD make the ALU a reusable thinking- compiler driver. The genuinely open work on the chain (PR #1051's transport-not-field-ALU finding) belongs to the alpha-reason-witness lineage addendum, not to this plan. Plan section 6.3 and 1b corrected; the earlier "driver vs small DTO crate" and the ogar-r2il round-trip probe are retracted in place. Board: EPIPHANIES E-THE-DTO-LADDER-IS-THE-ALU-BUS-AND-WAS-ALREADY-RULED-1 (with the read-the-primer-first fence); PR_ARC correction line; SUPERSESSION-INDEX regenerated. ## 2026-09-02 — E-THE-DTO-LADDER-IS-THE-ALU-BUS-AND-WAS-ALREADY-RULED-1 — a session re-asked a question `.claude/v3/` had answered on 2026-07-02, and proposed a probe on the wrong axis before reading it

**Status:** CORRECTION + FENCE (same day, same branch, before merge). **Confidence:** High.

**What happened.** The closure plan asked, as "ruling 3", which crate should own `StreamDto` / `PerturbationDto` / `BusDto` / `ThoughtStruct`, offered "driver vs a small DTO crate", and — after the operator said the word "ladder" was unclear — proposed an `ogar-r2il` round-trip probe to decide it. The operator's correction was to read the V3 documentation. Read in full (`README`, `VISION`, `v3-substrate-primer`, `INTEGRATION-PLAN`, `ENTROPY-MILESTONES`), the answer was there since 2026-07-02: the four structs are the bus of the ALU chain `ladybug-rs → thinking-engine → P64 → cognitive-shader-driver → SoA` (`primer` §3, `VISION` §6, `E-DTO-LADDER-OWNERSHIP-SPLIT`, W4 / D-V3-W4a), and the contract already carries their zero-dep shader-side twins (`cognitive_shader::{ShaderDispatch, ShaderResonance, ShaderBus, ShaderCrystal}`; `engine_bridge.rs:6-8` maps the two ladders rung by rung).
6+
7+
**The plain statement, so it is not re-derived again.** `cognitive-shader-driver` is the ALU: it owns the SoA columns, dispatches a cycle through the engine hook, and emits the cycle fingerprint through sinks. The four DTOs are what enters and leaves the ALU. stockfish-rs is the reference design for the 64×64 field (NNUE = the incremental make/unmake accumulator, `stockfish-harvest-64x64-v1`); masking + SIMD are what turn that ALU into a reusable thinking-compiler driver any consumer can dispatch into as a cognitive shader. What is genuinely open on this chain is NOT placement: PR #1051 measured the seam as transport rather than a field ALU, and `alpha-reason-witness-shader-field-lineage-addendum-v1` owns recovering the field path. A closure of thinking-engine never moves the ALU's bus into a lab crate, a DTO crate, or r2il.
8+
9+
**Fence.** Before asking any question that contains "DTO", "ladder", "BusDto", "shader" or "driver": `v3-substrate-primer.md` §3 and `E-DTO-LADDER-OWNERSHIP-SPLIT` first. The primer is one page; the re-derivation cost two turns and one wrong proposal in a PR body. This is the "consult before you guess" rule (CLAUDE.md § The Stance) failing on its own author.

This group is the ALU's bus, not a crate-placement question (see §6.3): the

3. **The four wire structs' home — OPEN, re-stated in plain terms.** "DTO
220-
ladder" meant exactly these four structs in
221-
`crates/thinking-engine/src/dto.rs`, nothing else: `StreamDto` (:40, the
222-
input perturbation), `PerturbationDto` (:66, the energy field after a
223-
cycle), `BusDto` (:135, the outcome: `converged`, `cycle_count`, top-k)
224-
and `ThoughtStruct` (:149, the persisted result). NOT the 0–9 rung
225-
ladder, NOT the rung-content ladder, NOT the entropy ladder. The
226-
operator's intuition — express them as `ogar-r2il` patterns and use
227-
that as the experimental playground — is consistent with the ruled
228-
direction that programs converge onto the loco/r2il membrane; `ogar-r2il`
229-
is a proxy vocabulary over `ogar-loco` that mints nothing. What is NOT
230-
yet known is whether a data SHAPE (these structs) is expressible as a
231-
program PATTERN there or whether only the cycle that produces them is.
232-
Proposed next step, not a decision: one probe that expresses a single
233-
`StreamDto → cycle → BusDto` round trip as an r2il pattern over the
234-
existing loco vocabulary and compares its output with the driver's
235-
`with-engine` path on one fixture. If it round-trips, the home question
236-
answers itself (the pattern IS the home and the structs become
237-
projections); if not, the choice is driver vs a small DTO crate, as
238-
before. D-TEH-1 does not wait on this.
222+
3. **The four wire structs' home — CLOSED: it was already ruled, and I
223+
re-asked it (corrected 2026-09-02, after reading `.claude/v3/` in
224+
full).** `StreamDto` / `PerturbationDto` / `BusDto` / `ThoughtStruct`
225+
(`thinking-engine/src/dto.rs`) are the bus of the ALU chain
226+
`ladybug-rs → thinking-engine → P64 → cognitive-shader-driver → SoA`
227+
(`v3-substrate-primer.md` §3, `VISION.md` §6,
228+
`E-DTO-LADDER-OWNERSHIP-SPLIT`, INTEGRATION-PLAN W4 / D-V3-W4a). In
229+
plain terms: **cognitive-shader-driver is the ALU** — it holds the
230+
SoA columns, dispatches a cycle through the engine hook, and emits the
231+
cycle fingerprint through sinks; the four structs are what enters and
232+
leaves that ALU. The contract already carries the zero-dep shader-side
233+
twins of the same four rungs (`cognitive_shader::{ShaderDispatch,
234+
ShaderResonance, ShaderBus, ShaderCrystal}`, `engine_bridge.rs:6-8`
235+
maps engine ↔ shader rung by rung). So the home question has no third
236+
option and needs no crate decision: the shape belongs to the ALU side of
237+
the bridge and lands under D-TTV-1 / W4 exactly as INTEGRATION-PLAN
238+
already says. **The earlier text here (a small DTO crate, or an
239+
`ogar-r2il` round-trip probe to decide the home) is RETRACTED** — it
240+
re-derived a ruled question and proposed a probe on the wrong axis.
241+
What IS open on this chain is recorded elsewhere and is not this plan's
242+
to re-open: PR #1051 measured the seam as transport, not a field ALU
243+
(`PerturbationDto.energy` dropped, `top_k` collapsed to a
244+
`ColumnWindow`), and `alpha-reason-witness-shader-field-lineage-addendum-v1`
245+
(D-ARW) owns recovering the field path, with **stockfish-rs as the
246+
reference design** for the 64×64 field: NNUE teaches the incremental
247+
make/unmake accumulator, and masking + SIMD are what make the ALU a
248+
reusable thinking-compiler driver that any consumer can dispatch into as
249+
a cognitive shader. Consequence for THIS plan: 1b's engines and DTOs
250+
are HOT-VIA-FEATURE on the ALU chain; the closure never moves them into
251+
a lab crate, a DTO crate, or r2il — W1 only re-points the driver's
252+
`with-engine` feature at wherever D-TTV-1 lands the engine hook, and
253+
the shapes stay with the ALU.
