disable AI-overviews in Google searches #39

Description

@otizonaizit

I have successfully done the following on my machine.

The trick is to define a new default search engine, which is basically google but with results from the "web" tab only (other tabs are "AI Mode All News Images Videos Shopping More"). If you then click on one of the other tabs you still can get to the AI answers, but it's a step further away.

Disable Google AI-overview in google searches:

  1. in about:config add the boolean true key: browser.urlbar.update2.engineAliasRefresh

  2. in settings#search "add" or "edit":

Search engine name: Google-Fix
Engine URL: https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14
Search suggestion URL: https://suggestqueries.google.com/complete/search?output=firefox&client=firefox&q=%s&udm=14
Keyword: xx

Not sure how to replicate step 2 without manually click on the settings in the firefox window though...
